Pink martini - hey eugene

I have come to like pink martini in the last few months. That band has grown on me. Their first album "sympathique" is really good.

Just got "hey eugene" and that sound prising too.

Its a 14 piece ensemble. Their lead female singer china forbes has a charming voice.

With the nelson riddle orchestra(the guy who backed frank sinatra for many many of his concerts and recordings)

That lady is something else. At the time of this recording she was really going thru bad health issues. Inspite of that she comes thru superbly !

Inspite of me having tons of ella cd's this one is special.

Hey arj

That's a good one. Ella had the voice of an angel and the memory of an elephant.
The perfect singer as it were.
It is said that she could sing almost any song in her time at the drop of a hat with each word of the lyric spot on.

Arj if you like ella, go get a dvd called sinatra and friends which features ella, jobim and sinatra in one tv program.
Phenominal ! One of the few times big names came together and excelled.

This is apparetly the only Ella album I have. She does get into the skin of the song very well and is able to switch from one mood to the other very well... especially her rendition of "dukes place" I liked her and will add on with more of her stuff

GULAAL

Very thoughtful lyrics, colorful music, lots of traditional folk instruments with a rustic Rajasthani touch.
One of the better hindi music of recent times.
The best part about it is, it keeps you so hooked to the music that you do not care about the recording quality. But the recording quality is pretty acceptable, very listenable on most hifi systems.

Last week, in Singapore, I picked up about 20 audiophile grade CDs and I am slowly unwrapping them, and listening to each in detail, before opening the next.

The one I am currently listening to is :

HIGH ENDITION - Roadtracks-1

The tracks on the CD are :

01. Bo Ramsey - Can't sleep
02. Chris Farlow - I've got your love
03. Tracy Grammer - Shadows of Evangeline
04. The Pines - Avenue of the Saints
05. Chip Taylor - Dance with a whole in your shoe
06. Kari Bremnes - Ikkje bare vaeren
07. Jimmy Little - Alone with you
08. Tom Rush - What an old lover knows
09. Otis Taylor - Lost my Guitar
10. Allan Taylor - Dedicated to..
11. Jan Hirte's Blue Ribbon - I always will
12. Hans Theesink & Terry Evans - Demons
13. Bo Ramsey - I don't know
14. Jim Byrnes - Three shots
15. Eilen Jewell - Codeine Arms
16. Paul O'Brien - Misty Mountain
17. Allan Taylor - Lay soft on your pillow

This is a German label, that I am not familiar with. The Quality is Very nice.

I paid S $ 34 for the CD compared to S$22 for a regular CD and S$ 44 for an XRCD.

Anyone here familiar with this label ? Any other CDs from this label that you recommend ?

Also, I particularly liked :
05. Chip Taylor - Dance with a whole in your shoe

Anyone familiar with Chip Taylor ? Have any of his other music ?

Hi,

Picked up

THE PERSUASIONS-Sing the Beatles-Chesky,from Audio People in Madras.

Awesome cover versions of the Beatles songs. These guys are fantastic.

AUDIO PEOPLE also have LP's and Cd's etc from the German Lable

http://www.stockfisch-records.de/stckff/sf_stockfisch_e.html

I didn't have time to go through their stock as they were busy unpacking the shipment when I visited.

@Ampnut if you like folk music you should listen to Tracy Grammer singing with the late Dave Carter.

Dave Carter was an amazing folk singer songwriter.

Ampnut could you tell me the store in Singapore where you picked up these CD's?

Hi Rajiv,

I picked up this disc from ROXY Music at Adelphi ( 1 Coleman Street, Singapore).

Adelphi is the Hi End Hi Fi Centre in S'pore.

ROXY has a GREAT collection, currently, and I picjked up many Chesky CDs from him @ S $ 22 each.

There is also another CD + (mainly) LP store at Adelphi. who had some titles that ROXY did not. I will dig out their full contact details if you are interested. (ROXY does not have an E-Mail address ... )

GREAT to hear that AUDIO PEOPLE have a range of Audiophile titles. I have great respect for Stockfish.

Can you please post / PM me AUDIO PEOPLE's contact details ? Would love to get their price list.

Cheers

Picked up this wonderful CD, featuring a collection of classical and popular sacred music by that Welsh Mezzo Soprano, Katherine Jenkins.

Not only does the young lady have a bewitching voice, but a demeanor that would be entirely appropriate in that playful periodical published by the excellent Mr Heffner.

Y'know . music has been my passion since childhood.I've musical memories dating back to when I was 4-5 yrs of age.
With me, often a melody pops into my head & keeps playing on & on & on....
Last night one such song which I must have first heard decades back( I think I have it on a 78rpm/45 single-EP/LP, dont remember) popped into my head & refused to go away.
It was a track called "Till".
I wonder how many of you remember this number, but it used to be a favourite of the DJs in the Friday night "A Date With You" & Sat night " Forces Request" radio programmes.
Some furious googling followed. I remembered one the singers who had sung this song was THE Shirley Bassey, so google threw that up on you tube.
But my memory told me that that was'nt the version that was haunting me.
So more googling followed(Thank God for Google) and I hit it.
It was a version sung in italian by a singer called Caterina Valente( anyone heard of her ?) & here is the link to the song-
Plz Do Hear IT!!!

Kamal,
that was nice indeed! very traditional....

hey, any old French songs swirling in your head?? if yes, do let us know.

I still remember that very beautiful French song in the movie "Saving Private Ryan". it's towards the end when the American soldiers find an old record player w/ a LP in the village & it's just before the German assault. They have Private Ryan & are headed back with him. The soldiers play that song in that very sombre moment. I tried hard to find that song but it's certainly not on the movie audio CD. I don't even know what it's called hence do not where to find it. But old French songs like that are very nice to hear when the mood is right........

Sir "till" is a wonderfull song. Frankie vaughan sings it
beautifully too. Do try to find that if you can.

Caterina valente , now that's a popular singer !
Kamal, I have written about this lady before, her one album with the werner mueller orchestra singing the classical melodies is awesome ! Its an rca recording and is one of the finest pressings of an lp that I have heard ever.
That lady can sing !"Till the end of time.....da da da da da da...." Awesome, but this "till" is different from the "till" you mentioned.
Your "till" I think goes like "till the monn deserts the sky, tell all the seas run dry, till then I'll worship you...."

La vien en rose, now that's a wonderful song. Many have sung it but I particularly love the dean martin version. That swaggger seems to gel well with that song.

Kamal, I too have these one song moments from time to time and that one song buzzing in my head right now is
"Sunrise sunset" from fidler on the roof..

Another example of beatles music sounding great when played only on instruments.

The first two cd's are excellent.....:-) here ends my search for rca living stereo recordings for a while and happy to get many of the good ones at one shot !
Mostly, chicago sym, boston sym, fritz reiner, chalres munch, stokowsky and great artists like. Rubenstein, heifitz, piatigosky.

I saw a "made in korea" label on it. We done korea !

Ps: now to find another block buster like this from mercury "living presence" :-)
