ikono.tv is an independent broadcast platform for the art world to link to a wider audience, the TV viewer. The international HDTV channel uses the medium of television to promote the expression, creation and distribution of art - without any spoken commentary and free of commercial interruption.

When Gerry Schum founded his "Fernsehgalerie" ("Television Gallery") in 1968, it was based on the idea that TV shows should be treated as works of art, rather than simply a way of reporting on art. Nearly four decades later, ikono.tv has realised Schum's idea that "a work of art which utilises the medium of television needs no spoken explanation."

ikono.tv presents artworks from the ancient to the contemporary by employing the visual narration of successive images. Working with the language of film, in cooperation with curators and artists, the full spectrum of international artistic output is represented on the channel: video, film, painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, photography, and architecture.

Ikono.tv will start its broadcasting on July 1st, daily form 22:00 to 24:00 CET. It will be available in whole Europe on the digitial ASTRA platform and in Germany on Kabel Deutschland in Hamburg and in Norderstedter Kabel. Further distribution channels will follow
