Hi! Everyone,
Just got one of the best amps in the world on demo. Called the PLINIUS SA-102, Pure Class A power amp driving the Dynaudio Audience 52se, ProAc Studio 125,& shortly the D15, Pre-Amp will be the Jeff Rowland Cosonance, the LINN Pre. CDP Is a LINN or a MERIDIAN. Cables from Finesse, VDH Revelaton & Audioquest. Pls call me on 98440-94669 for a demo appointment. (STRICTLY only by appointment, no walk-ins).:cut Also on demo is the Dali Blue 3003, Rega Mira, Cambridge Audio 540a/540c.

The SA-102 will be on demo till Monday only as it is already sold and the customer was kind enough to allow me to keep it for a few days to burn-in the amp. U can fry eggs on it if you dont want to use it as an amp. Be ready to pay a huge current bill especially if u keep it in CLASS A mode.(we are talking of 125w or 460w rms in CLass A.

Now here are the details of the amp:-

SA-102 POWER AMPLIFIER
The Plinius SA-102 Class A power amplifier is the successor to the acclaimed SA-100 power amplifier. Enhancements to the SA-102 include dual power transformers with much higher capacity than those in the SA-100, improved power supply filtering, circuit refinements, and the same energy saving and error detecting logic control as found in the SA-250.

Input configuration switching allows the SA-102 to be run as a fully balanced mono power amplifier. Two SA-102s operated in this fashion provide 460 watts per channel of pure balanced Class A music.

The SA-102 is constructed in a substantial chassis with huge Plinius designed heatsink extrusions forming the sides of the case. Enhanced cooling flow built in to the amplifier allows it to run cooler while still maintaining the substantial bias current required for Class A operation. The power supply is housed in the base of the unit and is separated from the active signal circuitry by a horizontal internal bulkhead.

Although rated at 125 watts per channel in stereo mode, the SA-102 has a very large current capacity. Difficult loads are driven with ease, although very low efficiency ones in large spaces may need the added power of the Plinius SA-250.

Input options allow for Stereo via RCA connectors, bridged mono through RCA connectors, XLR stereo via XLR balanced connectors, or XLR balanced mono. Signal carrying wires are all Siltech brand.

As with all Plinius products the SA-102 is available in both anodised black and anodised silver finishes.
specs:-
Power: 125 Watts RMS 20Hz to 20kHz into 8 Ohms both channels driven from 20Hz to 20kHz.

Bridged/Balanced Mono Output: 460 Watts RMS per channel into 8 Ohms.

Frequency Response: 20Hz to 20kHz ± 0.2dB. -3dB at 5Hz and -3db at 70kHz.

Distortion: Typically less than 0.05% THD at rated power, 0.1% THD and IMD worst case prior to clipping.

Saturation: 140 Watts per channel or greater into 8 Ohms. 220 Watts per channel or greater into 4 Ohms.

Current Output: 50A short duration continuous per channel. Fuse protected.

Rise Time: Typically 5 microseconds.

Hum & Noise: 100dB below rated output 20Hz to 20KHz A-weighted.

Input Sensitivity: 0.8V RMS for rated output at 1kHz.

Input Impedance: 47k Ohms

Dimensions: Height 220mm (8.75"), Width 500mm (19.75"), Depth 455mm (18"), Weight 38kg (83lb).

Input Options: RCA Stereo, RCA Bridged Mono, XLR Balanced Stereo, XLR Balanced Mono.

This amazing amp is on demo at ABSOLUTE PHASE / INTECH DESGINS who are the only authorised distributors for PLINIUS in India.

All models of Plinius are available against order.

Hey Prithvi,
Plinius is amazing. I had heard their Int amp compared to a Krell 400i and felt the plinius was way more smoother and musical..Class As have an efficiency of around 10 % hence if the power rating is 20 W..it cosumes 200W of power !!!! the maths for 125 watts is mindboggling..more than a Microwave

But is the plinius really Pure class A or with a Class A bias ? i think it is the latter !

for those who want to read more about the plinius please read the below..
http://www.soundstage.com/revequip/plinius_sa102.htm
the thought of a plinius driving a Dynaudio is yummy..but might be an overkill for the Proacs IMHO..

Hi All

Check this from the Plinius SA-102 instruction manual

BIAS A: This positionprovides true Class A bias to the output stage therefore ensuring optimum performance of the amplifier during all listening events

2. The current required from the mains supply in BIAS A is approximatly 500Watts similar to a small electric heater

Best regards

Hi! Guys,
Just connected the SA102 to my clients system today, he was totally blown, should get the amp back tomorrow afternoon, will be replacing it with a CJ MF2500A in his system (replace the quad 909), sadly I cannot have that amp on demo as the client wants it tomorrow itself.

Some good news, the BRYSTON 4BSST & THE BP26 will be on demo next week.

Those of you who want a demo of the SA102 pls come call me to check if my schedule is free.
Thanks guys.

PS: there is a Musical Fidelity pre/pwr 2nd hand for sale, any1 interested.

Yes guys the PLINIUS SA-102 is a pure class A amp, no bullshit like sustained pleateau biasing or 10w in class a and rest in ab.

JUST PURE CLASS A. Period.

The customer who has the 102 right now is hoping that his CJ MF2500A is as good, which is doubtful. Looks like I will have to find a buyer for his brand new MF2500A and sell him the PLINIUS SA-REF or the SA-102.

PS: Consumption is 1100Watts in CLASS A and not 500W.

looks like you will trip the local electricity grid often enough to bring in the karnataka electricity board home to confiscate this power hogger

Hi! MAnek, ur right. Just got the 102 back from the client and his face fell when he heard the 2500a. He loves the 102, but he has now the 2500a.

Benko and Nagraj came for a demo and so did kiran bir who generally writes for AVMAX.
