Christmas is a great time of year. I have taken a break from jazz and classical. I have visited churches to hear the 4-voice choirs. Nothing beats live! I even got a chance to hear a pipe organ in St. George's cathedral last Sunday.

Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to all you audiophile gentlemen.

LOVELY Pic Doc.

The Exposure is just perfect. I suspect you took it from as boat ?

I am Suprised that there is no smear due to the boat movement...

Can you share some more details about the pic ?

Congrats !

Hi !

Let's turn it into Photography forum

Camera Nikon D-70
Lens Nikkor 18-70 DX
Speed 2 secs
Aperture F16
Hand-held - I did not carry my tripod. But supported the camera on edge of the big boat while on a dinner cruise. I was lucky to have caught the moon in its glory.

BTW there are many photo enthusiasts here - big boys with their tech toys !!!

Lovely pic! Wouldn't a slightly lower F number with lower ISO have helped? The picture is beautiful other than the high ISO noise :(. I'm still a newb in photography but was just wondering :).

You are right. An F 8 would be great but many a time there is failure of law of reciprocation - RLF in low light conditions - so I factored that in it. Moreover this is a low resoluition image - the original image is slightly better. What would have really help a great deal was a tripod which I did not carry with me on this trip - these stands & racks are important everywhere

I was also trying other gimmicks - I captured some fireworks, took some zoom effect shots, etc.without bothering about changing the settings.

These night shots are not easy to figure out-but I think a distsnt landscape shot is better taken with a high f number for greater DOF.
You're right tho Sanjay-timed shots do get significantly better with a tripod-hand vibes have been my woe.
Any recommendations re the tripod, Sanjay?
I went to Esplanade road recently but got confused by the advice rendered by the shopkeepers-the tripods in the 1000 to 1500 range had plastic locks in the extn legs, which, I was told, are prone to breaking & thus rendering the trpod useless, while the ones with metal( Aluminium) locks were significantly more expensive.

The entry level HiFi tripod would be the Manfrotto 190 with a Manfrotto Head. Can be bought from either Madanjee at Chandani Chowk or at Photovision India near Usuf Sarai. It costs about Rs. 4500. Those cheaper ones are useless - cause a lot of vibration and deteriorate the quality of image.
