Any of the following will do:

Table Top
Yaesu (prefer models FRG-7 , FRG-100, FRG-8800, FRG-7700)
Icom (any post 1995 model except R75 which I have already)
JRC (any model)
Drake (any model)
Kenwood (any late 70's and newer model)

World Band Portables
Sangean ATS-909
Sony (any mid-80's transistorised world band receiver that features SSB operation.

Not looking for the modern Sony ICF-SW7600GR that I have already. Excellent world band receiver. Pulls in weak signals from as far as New Zealand and Brazil from my location in eastern India with an external tuned dipole antenna)

As I am primarily looking for short wave coverage, any receiver capable of 3khz and above should be fine. It should most certainly have SSB capability. And yes in perfect working condition. Its virtually impossible (at least for me) to bring back a dead receiver of these types.

I know people in South India are quite active in ham and dx field. Therefore, I am specially requesting assistance from South based member

Hi,

I have a Sony 7600 D and Sangean 803A. Both can decode SSB (USB/LSB).

It seems you are a ham or swl. What is your call sign and QTH? I am looking out for a 7600 GR.

Hello nietzsche-ji

My QTH is NL32BS at approx 22°48'35.65"N 86°10'53.28"E. I am a swl.

Your 803A is a sturdy piece. Have you done any mods to it? I guess 803A was the last in line of gear which one could actually open and tweak. What kind of antenna you use.?

7600GR is of-course the ultimate in portable world band receiver and surely would be an improvement over your 7600D just for the SYNCH mode. If you are planning to buy 7600GR, then do not delay any further. I was reading that is the worldband receiver SONY is going to produce and may not be available beyond 2008. Its still made in Japan which is extraordinary, considering their top line DVD's and such are now made in low cost locations. In India I have see new costs bestrewn 10k to 14k.

Meanwhile, I have located a JRC NRD 545 in Kolkata. Lets see how it goes

Ani-ji
Thanks for the link. Useful stuff for hams.
