Hello Buddies,
I am thinking of selling my much beloved Plinius 8200 MkII Amp. I am planning to upgrade to another Plinius. The only reason for this upgrade is the absence of a XLR input in the amplifier. I have listened to few other Plinius amps including their new 9xxx range but I felt these 8xxx series of Plinius amps were the sweetest sounding amps save for the SA-102. Their warmth/sweetness along with authority and dynamics makes them one of the most involving solid state amp in their class. Having said all that, they are very refined and transparent as well.

This amp has been with me for 6 months. I bought it from the ex-distributor of Plinius where it was lying Box-packed. It wouldnt have done more than 500 hours till date. Absolute mint condition, almost new.

The Amp specs and features:
. Power Ouput: 175 watts per channel at 8 ohms and goes to 300 watts per channel at 4 ohms.

. Peak Current output: 35 Amperes

. Phono stage In-built

. Has a processor loop to be used as Power amp

I also plan to bundle a pair of speaker cables along with the amp. Its not a free give away. I have painfully matched this speaker cable to this amp after auditioning at least 10 other cables ranging upto 30k. Unexpectedly these cables sounded better than all of them. Its a VDH CS-122 speaker cable. I would strongly recommend to anyone who buys this amp to audition them just once.

Please PM me for the price and other details.

Don't say that Bhagwan. All Plinius amps I have heard sofar (but I havn't auditioned the 9xxx-series yet) were exeptionally good. And if I would have to buy a SS-Amp today in a reasonable price category, Plinius would be on top of the list to choose from. Another favorite of mine is Exposure from UK (northern hemisphere) .

Jochen

Congratulation Abhi, very good combo indeed with an exemplary price/performance ratio I really like that it's somehow like my power cord (I mean the ratio)

Edit: and a big thank you to the designer of these amps

you guys are hilarious...
yes....I am happy as well as surprised with what I am owning and hearing now. It has definitely taken my music to a different league and now. It all just happened. I had never planned for it. In fact I had started off with something entirely different in mind and I am glad that things happened differently.

About thanking the designer...I suppose he deserves much more than that .

Lets do both..... .
Well, I have Siva's Pre-Power combo.
His Reference Valve Pre-amp PM-1 with his Dual Mono Solid state Power amp.

It all just happened. There was a SA-102 going for sale and I had my eyes on it. It so happened that I called up Siva to discuss about it and in the process I ended up listening to his pre-power combo. He also had a SA-Ref at his place which he gave me a demo as well. To my ears his pre-power beats the SA-Ref in two major aspects Tonality and Fidelity. The quality and quantity of information that came out of his pre-power was significantly better than the Sa-ref. Yes the SA-Ref did have more muscle and a nice overwhelming soundstage but I dont have the space to take advantage of these factors in my living room. However I took his pre-power home and auditioned it for a week. Compared it to my existing 8200, Accuphase Integrated and couple of other pre-power combo at a shop in Bangalore. It just sounded in a different league. The only thing I was worried about was its capability to drive the inefficient Dyns but it passed all the tests with flying colors. There was absolutely no hint of strain even at 2.o clock position and the Dyns were super-happy with such quality power being fed to it. I had no way but to buy it off .
Kudos to Siva for putting together such a wonderful combo at down to earth prices!!!!

Having said all that the only amp I still find nice to hear is the 8200. It has its own weaknesses but its positives far outweigh its negatives.

Also now that I have entered the tube world, its great to see different tubes giving different sonics and all of them sounding musical..

Now come over and raid!!!!

Congrats on the purchase. I have not heard Sivas SS power amp but if his current system is anything to go by, the preamp has to be very transparent and of high quality.

so do you already have Sivas photo or should we all request him to send it to you

Ya, it was interesting to see his SS power amp which costs 1/nth of his tube monoblocs still retaining a good measure of its tonality and refinement.
But then those monoblocs would have its own space with top quality speakers and electronics I guess.

Hi Abhi,

Congratulations!

It's heartening to see Indian products, and the work of Indian designers, being recognised. There's no reason why good products can't be made here, at Indian prices!

Hi Steve, the preamp uses three 12AX7 tubes. By default it came with Sovtek 12AX7-LPS....but Siva also recommended to try out JJ Tesla. I got them and wow!! it sounds even better, slightly warmer and fuller. Siva however has not found NOS tubes to be sounding any great in his preamp but I would still try a few of them very soon... .

Thanks Viren and Manek....
I never had any brand reservations anyway.
This kind of outstanding performance coming at unbelievable prices is not something very common in India. But if its there and known to people then it should be considered as a fortunate thing and taken advantage of. I always thought people in New Zealand are so fortunate to be able to buy products like Plinius at half the prices we pay here...there is no reason the equation wouldnt hold for India if we have products like these being designed and manufactured here.

Thanks Krish...
Though I am not great at writing reviews but still would definitely write a detailed report on its performance. Currently I am in the process of selecting good cables for the system. My existing cables are now all showing up there weaknesses and I have to change them. Once I have these in place, I would write about the product.

As for specs, here they are:
