First of all sorry if I write in english, I hope it's not forbidden, but this is the only one forum with a lot of this LG owners and, since I'm gonna buy a new TV, I need some advices...

my usage will be DTT, SAT and football games on Sky (like Premiere)...just want to know the owners opinion on this LCD for the above uses...would it be a good choice? what are its vantages and disadvantages? how does it behave with football matches?

Would it be a plasma a better solution for this kind of usage?

I'm also looking at Toshiba 37WL66Z, anyone can compare this with the LG?
Thank you!

Hi, here is another one writing in English. I have checked all possible LCD-TV in action watching them in diferent German stores and I must say that LG 37LB1R is one of the best. Also very good if not better is LG 37LP1R. You should also check Samsung LE-40R71/72/73 and Sony 40S2000 (40V2000). I do not know how Toshiba could get such good notes in some tests as I find 37WL66 picture aufull, with no detail at all. Phillips 9966 is also very good (6ms response time).

it's a pain this decision, here you say that WL66 is not as good as promised...in another forum they tell me that the Toshiba is the best I can find...
what should I choose?
here the LP1R it's still overpriced compared to the LB1R and the LB1R has 2 tuners and seems newer (XD Engine 3 etc)...

anyway, any 37LB1R owners over there that can report any impression in the every-day use?

Hallo,

I own a LG37LB1R since 4 weeks. My opinion is, that the LG has the best overall package of LCD TV in the present.
(1) Picturequality is very good (especially with PC)
(2) 1:1 Mapping with VGA and HDMI (with DVI-to-HDMI-cable)
(3) Connectivitiy (Scart, SVHS, VGA, HDMI, ...)
(4) Good Sound
(5) Adjustable Audio Out (with Mute Function)
(6) Very good User Interface
(7) Best build quality

I am very satisfied with the TV!

hi Manero (like Tony Manero? )
Thanks for your answer!

Did you ever had the possibility to compare the picture quality on the LG with the one of the Toshiba 37WL66Z?

Did you ever watch any football match on the LG and can you tell me how it behaves?

At the moment (and probably also on the future) I won't need to connect a PC to the LG, so what's more interesting for me now is its quality with SAT / DTT sources...

Are black (the big problem of LCD) real blacks?
Did you find any problem of blurring?

Thanks a lot, here in Italy it's still not diffused on stores, the only way to buy it it's on internet and then the impossibility to evaluate it with own eyes it's quite tedious.

I think you can*t miss if you go for LG37LB1R or LG37LP1R. Both are outstanding packages for the money. Have just read VIDEO 6/2006 and could not find any LCD-TV from LG tested. All other brands and models are there but no LG. They must hate LG or LG didn*t pay them enough for tests? Just joking! There you can also find latest Sony KDL-40V2000 and Samsung LE-40R71B tested, of course, both are costing much more that LGs. Best is Sony, they say. I have seen Toshiba in three diferent stores an pictures were not OK. No way! They are cheep, yes, but that*s all.

1.) LG37LB1R or LG37LP1R

2.) LE-40R71B

3.) KDL-40S2000

4.) KDL-40V2000

Depends on how much you are prepared to spend? LGs are cheapest, Sonys are most expensive. I am also buying new LCD-TV and I think I will go for KDL-40V2000? Have time, will wait for Staßenpreis to drop on 1700€ or maybe even less.

i'm gonna spend around 1600 euros...

that's why I'm dealing between LG 37LB1R (found only on internet by now) and Toshiba 37WL66Z (which in our italian forum about HDTV, all owners declare it as one of the best LCD around...so i'm now a bit confused, here there seem to be some negative comments about it )

unfortunately not a joke, but bittersweet reality.

If deciding between LG and Samsung panels (Sony uses Samsung panels as well), you definitely need to check them out before you decide.

The Samsung panels are currently much better in terms of blacklevel, contrast and color reproduction. I also find the Samsung panels to be better thant the current Toshiba panels.

Tobias

Have read on Britain AV-Forum that Sony and Samsung LCD panels are realy produced in the same factory but R&D is totaly diferent. So this panels from Sony and Samsung are not the same!

IcestOrm, why don*t you step to the nearest AV store and see for yourself if Toshi is good enough for your eyes? And if you must decide beetwen LB1R and WL66, for god-sakes, buy LG.

the problem, as aleady said above, is that here in Italy, the Toshiba WL66 is very rare, only a few stores have it...and the LB1R is still under dstribution and never found a store with it...that's why I'm getting as much opinions as possible from owners of the 2...

the doubts come because here in this forum I saw some negative posts about Toshiba, while on our italian forum all Toshiba owners declare very good opinions about it...

and your last sentence

if you must decide beetwen LB1R and WL66, for god-sakes, buy LG

make me still more confused..I wanna order it on the net today so that on first days of next week i'll have at home and can watch the WC on it...

why you assume LG to be so superior?
I'm think i'm going for it, even if it will be a blind-eye buy for me..

In Saturn München there were 10 various LCD-TVs connected to one and the same signal. Diferent brands in real action: Toshiba, Sharp, Samsung, Panasonic, LG, Sony, Thomson, JVC, Orion, Metz ... All was 32" starting models. Best performer - LG32LZ55 !!! Not worst of them all but realy bad regarding picture was Toshiba 32WL66. As I said before, no picture detail at all. Colors all washed-up. Very bad in fast moving details ...

In same store another Toshiba (37WL66) was connected to Samsung DVD demo material (Samsung Logo on TV picture). Picture was again not OK. On Samsung LE-40R72 standing near-by picture was fantastic.

Same story about Toshiba have I seen again in MediaMarkt Muenchen and two other stores from some private sellers.

That are my private views, you should compare diferent LCD-TVs for yourself and decide. Yes, in diferent Video Magazines I have read super reviews about Toshiba LCD-TVs, in reality they are not so perfect.

have you ever checked if they had same connection in?

I've heard that on most Mediamarkt here in Italy Samsung are always connected with best inputs, while other TV with lower qualities inputs...

also maybe Toshiba need some adjustmenet...also because Samsung R72 has an old PVA panel...

anyway I'm quite sure to buy the LG 37LB1R at the moment...let's hope it will be the right bargain..

IcestOrm, if you can not compare diferent LCDs in store, you should read what users of LB1R and WL66 think about their panels. On this forum is enough to find about that topic. And I also think that before buying anything, you should see for yourself, how they perform in reality.

yes that what i'm trying to do from some days...

resume:

LB1R: here in hi-fi-forum.de all good/positive considerations

WL66: in our italian forum mostly very good considerations, in english avforums.com mostly very good considerations, here in hifi-forum.de some negative considerations...

I really don't have the possibility to see them in action...I can only rely on your hints..

i have the 37lb1r. in my opinion it's a very good lcd, no problems at all till now.
the picture quality is excellent, even with the analog tv cable. in HDTV, x360 or pc ist absolutly brilliant.
my first lcd was a 37wl66p, but there was a huge problem with the viewing angle, which was only about 50degrees at all!!! some other points ae also not so goot at the toshiba. the picture wasn't so brilliant and sharp a i thougt it should be.
now, with the LG, my picture ist brilliant at sharp as hell *g*
fpr me the LG was the better choics, but i don't know how this lcd's looks in other countries.
mayby there are diffrent manufactures and the quality isn't as high as it could be in some regions. like germany at the moment.
if you can't test one of the lcd's by your own it's a hard decission.
maybe a samsung r71 would be worth a view too!!!
my vote gose th the LB37LB1R.

hi, yesterday I received my 37LB1R at home...

i'm still elaborating impressions on it...

just a little thing:
when moving between channel list of my sat receiver I can see clearly that after a change in the channel list of all the channels name (I mean, I can pressing -> in the sat receiver scroll all the list to the right and see next 10 channels for example), their characters seems not defined for less then a second, then they acquire definition and you can see them better...

if you go nearer to the LCD screen, you can clearly see that this "loss of definition in the 1st second" is due to some vibration of the pixels, which stops after a short amount of time and then the text acquires perfect definition...

this sort of blur affects fast moving scenes like football games, where the spots on the edges of the court became not so clear like when the image gets still for some seconds...

anybody found such a behaviour?

could it be due to XD engine or other electronic things like this? or maybe a new scart cable can solve it?

Apart from this the LCD looks very nice, no comet effect or similar...

thanks

No, I don' t have this effect on my 37lb1r. Only a very little time for synchronisation when I am changing the input (TV, AV, VGA,)!

Could you provide a few pics if possible?

Thanks

just got 37LB1R a couple of days ago. couldn't find matching rivals in its price tag and Samsung is a brand I will NEVER buy even a roll of toilet paper from. anyway, what was my surprise when I plugged in my computer via a 10 meter RGB cable and found out the image is dull and generally far away from what should have been displayed. after few hours of endless testing with various resolutions and refresh rates, I finally read in the user manual the recommended resolution is 1360x768x60 Hz. okay, so I did set it that way and pressed Auto set on the television. for a few seconds the image got bright and crystal clear, but right after that artefacts started to appear, the image started flickering and just a second after it got dull and grey. and I tried that about 30 times in a row. my video card is MSI 7900 GTO which I bought recently and I have the latest nVidia drivers installed, so I'd assume the problem is not in the card, but in the television. from what I have read on the net, the XD engine has issues handling analog signals. so I assumed that's the problem and started searching for an option to disable XD processing. but the standard RGB input does not allow me to manipulate XD features, while other inputs do. to make myself sure the problem is not in my video card, I plugged the original RGB cable that comes with the TV with my laptop. the result was the same. so I am pretty sure now the problem is in the TV. I wouldn't consider getting another cable and using another input an option because I spent enough money so far and still it might not work.

so is there anyone with the same problem? user's manual says I have to check my cable and reinstall the video card, which in my opinion is a total bullshit. spent 4 hours last night playing with the card timing and achieved nothing. and since the TV does actually get the real image at first, I believe the problem is in the way it tries to process it.

btw, one thing I hate about the TV is that it gets stains and spots on the plastic surface and the stand just by sitting on the table. it seems you have to clean it every day
