Hi Guys,

Could you point me to websites or provide contact details of Valve based Pre Amps, Integrated Amps, Power Amps or Mono blocks manufactured in India ?

Individual opinions on the sound quality of specific products and approx prices also welcome, including recommendations .

No, please dont turn this into a Tube Vs Solid State debate...

Thanks

1) Cadence - www.cadenceaudio.com
2) Viren Bakshi - Lyrita Audio - www.Lyrita-audio.in
3) Siva - Corrson - www.corrson.com

These are all the manufacturers of tube amps I know off.

Cadence, I am a big fan off. Just love their products.

I have heard siva's entry level tube preamp once and loved it.

Virens tube amps are also highly regarded by many who have heard them though I have yet to hear them.

manek.

Would add Arasu's Laya Acoustics to that list.
Solid State power amps. His latest creation is a 250watts/channel @8 ohms and is one heavy 'beautiful' monster.
With extruded aluminium heatsink, aluminium chassis and faceplates.

Preamps are available in both 2 channel and 6 channel versions.
All based on OPA627.

And not to mention huge VFM.

I think we are talking of Tube(VALVE) amps only here and not SOLID STATE.

Hi Sabyasachi,

Could you please give us the contact numbers of Arasu? Also are you benkenobi the same who got his drivers and made a speaker with Junia's help? Then if you are in Bangalore could I come over and listen to your system sometime?

Thank you

Hi Maneck,

The Corrson site only lists Speakers.... No Valve amps.

( Siva - Corrson - www.corrson.com )

Or am I missing something ?

Thanks for your pointers.

The Laya Acoustics website

http://layaacoustics.com/default.aspx

too lists only speakers.

Thought Id check it out, even though they dont use tubes ....since the Op Amps used are impecable for audio applications......

Wonder why Laya & Corrson are 'shy' about their Electronics, on their website..

Manek is right. Although the pre has been under R&D for a couple of years, only very recently has it’s chassis been finalized. I received a mail from Siva last week with the pics. It looks pretty nice with the wooden face panel and the triangular cut accommodating the valves. I guess he has different versions to accomodate different budgets. I have heard the reference model and the quality was mind-blowing for the money.

Hi .
No intention to rain on this wonderful parade, but how do you R&D on a Marantz 7 design that been around since mid 50’s so?

Those who know tube tech will agree that M7 is a mediocre design to start with. It can’t hold a candle to ‘new’ tube line-stage designs.

M7 (the real one) has a fanatical following in the far-east and hence the high prices. But then they are also crazy about those old rambling Gerrards- the ones our granpa’s gave away to the dumsters. So go figure

Hey Scream,
From what I heard, this one is not a clone. It is a variant of the Marantz 7. Many other models from hovland, VTL etc.. are such variants. Anyway Siva from corrson is on board the forum. Why don’t you shoot the tech questions directly at him? He may be able to throw some light on the model.

Hmm..thoguh i haven't gone technically into Valves..from what i read on diyaudio.com they totally agree with your view that it is at best, a mediocre design.

If its a tube preamp you are looking for then check out aksaonline.com

There has been some delay in launching the products. It will be soon.

Many many products ..both current and past have been based on the same design principle used in M-7 (the design actually pre-dates M-7). Guys, when people talk about M-7 clone, they do not mean direct copy of the layout or circuit...they are generally very different; Most current editions use a lot of modern elements/twist to the basic design. They do deliver very good results...you just have to work hard on it.

I have often seen DIY Enthusiast not doing proper job of constructing the amp (bad design of PCB/component layout, shoddy wirning job, bad chassis, etc.,) and not selecting the correct type of components. Finally, it seems to become the limitations of the design, while it is really not.

Is this the best design in the world...defenitely not. But it does sound damn good with the right component and correct construction... now which is important.

Here is a very respected name in Singapore
http://www.divaaudio.com/diva/divapre.html

Mcintosh and VTL are two other brands which are known to have based thier pre on this design....ofcouse, the implementation is very different.

BTW, We will soon be launching DIY Version of M7 clone (Having heard these M7 Clone's i strongly believe in thier sound...i do not think it is bad at all). This should make good sound more affordable. If you prefer to do another design such as SRPP...you could do so, as we are also planning to offer a few critical components requried for such project. It will take some more time for us to launch these DIY versions.

The DIY kits will be quite different from our fully build/functional preamp, which will soon be ready for the market.

Based on the results from our initial work on the DIY kit, we started tor realize the true potential from tweaking this wonderful valve design and marrying it with the "noise-less sound" that modern solid state device can offer. We started to explore this option further and have arrived at our own "modern" variant of the design that sounds far superior to an vanilla M7 Clone. This design will be available only as fully built units, due to the complexity it involves.

Sorry guys, no more details about this on the forum...but you are all welcome to visit us and learn more (no obligation to buy anything....we are happy to talk to audiophiles)

Cheers
Siva.
