My source got a major upgrade

Ao the story on my DAC is that I had been to Canjam 2009 (International Head-fi.org meet) in LA last weekend.

Every year they have a raffle contest and give away prizes/gear.

The last and most expensive prize was the Audio-GD reference one DAC. ( 1550 + 4% paypal + shipping from China = 1650/1700$ total)

I had only bought one extra ticket in addition to the ticket that was issued on registration.

The extra ticket happened to hit the jackpot. The damn thing weighs 40 pounds so it is being shipped to me by a friend. Should have it sometime next week.


Manek, I was hoping to talk to you about a power cord for the DAC. i believe you have a DIY version that at least a couple of people have reviewed to be really good.

Good to know that you won ! Its always a great feeling to win prizes ! You lucky duck.

The power cord is a simple one. 3 wires of high purity copper, a foil shield over them and a screen with a very dense coverage over the shield. A simple Iec connector from elcom and 3 prong plug with brass connectors. Nothing too fancy as you can see but works well.

Manek - I presume Single ( Or thick) core Copper rather than multi Strand ?

Seems to be a well implemeneted 1704 based DAC. The guys at headfi and headcase seem to be loving it.

This one is multi-stranded.

The solid core one I had made with a briad and that too is quite good. The copper quality was not too great but that is when it dawned that the fact that the core is solid makes a diff. Actually looking for good solid core power cables with ofc quality. Have half a mind to use the belden 1505a for power just for kicks.

Sachi, any ofc cable with the geometry I mentioned, not too picky about insulation as long as it handles 15 amps, would do it. And solder the screen to the wall plug end. Leave the device side open(yes, it seems to work with pc's too)
