speaker sensitivity

Hi All,

This is my first posting.

I have few questions about speaker sensitivity.Is the sensitivity ratings provided by manufacturers genuine and is there any way we can test it?

you need an SPL meter and a power Meter !

measure out 1W to the speaker and keep the SPL Meter 1M from the speaker and measure the output. if your room is large enough there should be no room enhancements adding to it..

I would say take every spec given by any manufacturer with a pinch of salt....in this world of marketing driven specs you cant be sure of anything.

some speakers have been painstakingly measured by the NRC in canada and thier data is available for perusal. SPL data, impedance curves etc.

yes, the power and spl meter should give you a fair enough idea.

I would again burst out that atleat these ratings are quite fair as compared to the outrageous output ratings.......manek, arj is there any way we can corner these manufacturers with tall claims..........or just let the rot to rot and continue with our hobby

too little time we get from our busy schedules and let us have some time for good music and relaxation..and of course good discussions like these..............
