Late during the evening of 17 May 2010, only a few days after his 98th birthday, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Fritz Sennheiser, audio pioneer and founder of today’s Sennheiser electronic GmbH & Co. KG, passed away. The audio industry has lost a huge figure, not only in terms of his technical expertise but also in terms of his humanity.

Through his company Prof. Dr. Fritz Sennheiser had a crucial influence on the development of sound transmission technologies and was instrumental in forging many ground-breaking developments in electro-acoustics and transmission technologies.

He made his company as one of the most innovative one, particularly in headphone branch. Salute to this pioneer and may his soul find eternal peace.

I remember the HD-400 headphones were the first decent headphone I owned. They had the distinct bright yelow foam earpads.

The purchase was quicly followed by the HD-414, similar looking, with deeper buckets for the transducers, and more refined ..

This was all LONG before Sony introduced the Walkman, and made citizen joe aware of the thrill and excitement of headphone listening.

The HD400 / 414 launched me into serious headphone listneng, which I persued for more than 10 year, culminating in purchasing STAX "EarSpeakers".

Thank you Dr Sennheiser.

I never was a headphone guy but I know several who are my friends & Sennheisers were always very highly regarded. I'm sure that he's a big loss to the "can" guys....
