What do you mean by OLD?

I mainly listen to bebop onwards, so from 1945-??. My favourite jazz period is the 60's (Miles, Colrane, Ornette Coleman, Charles Mingus, etc)

heh heh....
Old ....but still is GOLD !!!!

Miles....I was just doing some research on the web and found that the K2 20-bit Analogue/Digital conversion process is invented by JVC and is used by JVC to process their XRCD's. I thought the process was proprietory to JVC and was not sold openly in the market for others to use....

A bit confused....

Hi! Manek,
If you like Miles then u must pick up the ones on JVC XRCD, they are out of the world. Am listening to one called "COOKIN" right now and man Miles is in my room. I am not saying this because I am the importer of JVC XRCDS but because I too loves the ol guys like ben webster, Lhampton, bgodman, stan getz etc & of course miles davis.

Occasionally, if one is really patient in trawling through the ever diminishing Jazz section at Rhythm House, at good ol'Rampart Row, one strikes paydirt.

Just the other day I chanced upon this marvellous album by Andre Previn titled 'After Hours' featuring Joe Pass on Guitar and Ray brown on Bass.I was simply blown away. The album features standards like - I Got It Bad (And That Ain't Good), Honeysuckle Rose.

If you like your Jazz easy and mellow, do pick this album. What's more the album is a Telarc release so the recording is simply divine.

Perfect music for that lazy evening.

K

P.S - Since I'm at it Charlie Rouse, that tenor sax player who played with Monk

I'd like to add to this list, if I may, with some names that have always lifted my spirits or have calmed my soul in good times and bad:
Chet Baker ["The Last Great Concert" - just incredible]
Dave Brubeck
John Coltrane
Charlie Byrd
Stan Getz [whose collaboration with Byrd, above, on "Jazz Samba" is awesome]
Astrud Gilberto [again, a collab with Getz impresses]
...and of course, my personal favourite:
Nina Simone ["Feelin' Good" always brings a smile to my face, and her cover of Leonard Cohen's "Suzanne" is a masterpiece].

I for one assumed it was "Modern Jazz Quartet." Have only heard of them myself. Please, please don't limit yourself to anything available locally (I assume you mean India?) -- I've never seen a good selection of music in any of the stores I've been to (far too mainstream). While there may be others, Amazon.com is an excellent resource for a whole world of music you can treat yourself to - and their service is reliable and efficient.
