Hollywood tracking board TrackingB.com reports that Shane Black, who wrote the first Lethal Weapon movie, has written a spec script for Lethal Weapon 5 without telling anyone. The site adds that he contacted franchise producer Joel Silver and said that he wanted to continue the story.
This time, homicidal Riggs (Mel Gibson) is about to retire, but pulls Murtaugh (Danny Glover) out of retirement to solve one final case, before they both officially head off into the sunset.
TrackingB.com says that Gibson and Glover are down to return, but no deals have been signed.

Richard Donner, who directed and produced all four "Lethal Weapon" films but found himself excluded from the recent plans to make a fifth, now says that his old friend Mel Gibson has walked away from the franchise revival.
"Mel turned it down," Donner said. "I would like to think that Mel turned it down because I wasn't involved. Knowing Mel, I would like to think that. Would that be the kind of thing he does? It sure would be."
Donner went on: "It's too bad, actually, because Channing Gibson, who wrote the fourth one, and Mike Riva, a designer on three of them, and myself and Derek [Hoffman, an associate at The Donner Company] had an incredibly strong story for the fifth movie. But we weren't given the opportunity and I think maybe I could have convinced Mel to do it. But Warners chose to go with Joel Silver."
Either way, the issue is moot; without Gibson on board, the franchise isn't going anywhere. "Yes, the project is pretty much dead in the water unless someone had the sense to come to me."

Soll wohl nun nur noch mit Glover und dessen Sohn wohl als Partner gedreht werden, wenn überhaupt.

nachdem ich mir die 4er-box gekauft hab und dieses jahr alle angesehen hatte, hab ich auch so bei mir gedacht das es hier einen weiteren teil geben wird. bei der ganzen fortsetzungsflut konnte man lethal weapon doch nicht ignorieren

Wenn ich mir den ersten Post so durchlese, wird es also ein Vierteiler bleiben. Ohne beide Darsteller ist es nur irgendein Film, aber kein Lethal Weapon.

Just my 37 Eurocents.

Sollten es einen nachfolger geben, dann bitte nur wenn Mel Gibson, Danny Glover und Joe Pesci mit dabei sind. Ich finde gerade dieses Trio machte die Filme zu dem was sie sind.

Stimmt, die Besetzung macht´s. Lethal Weapon ist eine der wenigen Filmserien die keinen Durchhänger hat. Hoffentlich
gibts keine Halbherzige Fortsetzung wie bei Indy...

Now comes word that producer Joel Silver is giving it another shot and is in talks with director Justin Lin (Fast and Furious) and writer Will Beall (Gangster Squad).

According to Tracking Board, "Thor" star Chris Hemsworth has been offered the lead role in the new film that will focus on an older cop's son and his wishes to join the police force. Since it's not considered a complete reboot, the older cop must be Riggs, played by Mel Gibson in the original movie.

It's also being reported that Shane Black, the director of "Iron Man 3" and the creator of the "Lethal Weapon" character, is also involved.

Ich will Gibson und Glover sehen und keinen Reboot.

Notfalls auch mit Rollator.

Ohne die Originalbesetzung wird es kein Teil 5, sondern nur ein beliebiger Actionfilm.
Hab mir gestern alle 4 Teile angeguggt

Das wäre normalerweise für Gibson die Möglichkeit, seine in den Sand gefahrene Karriere wieder heraus zu fahren.

2 Filme schaffe ich hintereinander, aber vier wären mir zuviel.

Waren keine 4, sondern 6

Hab danach noch Jack Reacher und World War Z geschaut.

...also der Titel LEATHAL WEAPON darf für keinen anderen Film(wenn er nicht mit Gibson und Glover ist) verwendet werden!!
Es gibt halt Sachen, die gibt es nur einmal....so bei Leathal Weapon...
