Sorry, because I am writing in English, but my knowledge of German language is not good enough to use it. I hope you will understand and help me.

I have a problem, which i hope you will be able to solve it.

I have IPTV (internet tv, set top box is arris 1113) and dvd recorder with DVBT Tuner (panasonic DMR EX 97 CEGK) https://www.idealo.d...7cegk-panasonic.html

DVD recorder has just RF IN and RF OUT ports, so i installed between arris and recorder HDMI to DVBT modulator

DVD finds a channel which is set on modulator, there are also picture and sound. Problem is, because it doesn`t (won`t) record anything.

I made a simpel test, i removed modulator and connect with roof antenna , it found channels, i was also able to record. But it doesn`t work with arris and modulator. Modulator is fracarro

https://www.fracarro.com/index.php/en/dj-list/item/404-mod-hdtv

any idea what might be wrong, why it doesn`t record, what i should/must do to be able to use it as a recorder?

There si also a slightly chace to get a set top box with RF output (amino 110). Do you think it will work with dvd recorder?

thank you and regards from Slovenia

Do you get any error-message from the Recorder when you hit the Record-Key?

no, nothing. But when i go to menu, where recorded files are available it is empty. On another forum, where i am also searching solution for this problem they mentioned that hdcp could be a problem.

Ok, so "won´t record anything" is misleading. It records, but records just black frames and no audio. Right?

If so: how did you get a picture at all ? If it were a HDCP problem you would not get a picture anyway.

i do not know if it records. I do the whole procedure (pressing the record button, choosing the time, quality), but when i go to folder where this should be saved it is empty. It says you do not have anything recorder. Also on dvd recorder it is a sign record, time is countdown etc. But there is no recorder files

But when i connect with roof antenna instead of arris+fracarro, it did, it recorded

The picture and sound are, only difference is that when it is connected with fracarro and arris, the name of programm is DTV or something like that, when it was connected to roof antenna, there were names os tv programs (such as slo 1, slo 2 etc). But i do not think that this could be a problem

also the characteristics of signal (strenght, quality) are same when it is connected to fracarro+arris or roof antenna

Thank you for the more detailed explanation.

I am afraid nobody here has tried this before: connecting an IPTV Box like your arris to a DVB-T Modulator like the fracarro.

And since DVB-T is obsolete in Germany probably nobody will ever do this. Arris and fracarro are unkown brands in Germany, too.

Seems like something in the signal the fracarro produces is not compatible to the DVB-T standard the Recorder expects.
But there is no chance to find out what is is.

My only idea: did you set the output of the IPTV Box to PAL Resolution ( 720x576x50i) when feeding the fracarro ?

no, i haven`t changed anything. Fracarro has HDMI input and it is with HDMi cable connected with arris. Recorder is connected with fracarro with standard antenna cable

do you think if i get a set top box, which has RF output, would work withdvd recorder?

there is also a chance to get a set top box which has scart output. but scart to rf port? connection? what do you think is it worth to try?

Best Solution? In my eyes: forget the EX97 about that and get an IPTV box that allows direct connection of a Harddisc or USB-stick.

this is a problem, because set top boxes are just rented, they are not in my possesion, and i am "forced" to choose what offers my internet provider. There is not much choice, I am afraid

DVD recorder is unfortunatelly already bough. before this a had a philips DVD recorder and with modulator HDMI to cinch (thet to scart) worked fantastic. But it went wrong, so i bought new one and here we are.

So if there are any ideas how to connect set top box with mentioned dvd recorder, I would like to read them. Set top box could be repalced with elderly versions (including boxes which have scart, RF output) if it it necessary

thanks, thanks, thanks for answers

An RF modulator will not help because EX97C does not have an analogue RF-receiver.

It also has no analogue AV-Input.

So it is definitely not suited for what you want to do. It is just to receive and record DVB-T and DVB-C. You simply bought the wrong machine. Sorry to say that.

- at first, my english is truly bad ...
(((the name of programm is DTV > correct cause there is NO named Information at this channel,
BUT there is a Number assigned from the Panasonic to this DTV named channel > this Number is importand for (timed) recording)))

- i understand YOU see the Picture and hear Sound coming from external Box via RF In at the Panasonic ? right ?
- at This Point You just click record on Panasonic Remote Control, what happend:
> if NO record > wich Info Points out on Screen from the Panasonic?
anything had to been seen prompting on Screen coming from the Panasonic OSD

--- You write You set a Timer .. where ? > the Timer had to been Set on Both; the Arris and the Pansonic
(on Pansonic at the Channel where the Picture normaly appears, if You can see it)
- if you only set Timer on Arris , the Panasonic dont realise this, cause there ist NO Communication in between the two

-- One Thing in this Combination could be a Problem;
i dont know how the Pansonic reacts if via RF In there is NO Signal detected
> in fact for that You have to set the Time later than in Arris
and have to figure out which Time the Panasonic approx Need to Stat up from StandBy and Start the Timed recording

- if this is so: you will ever have lappsed recording or missmatch recordings ,
sorry for that than ...

-- for Info:
some Recorders: dont even start record if NO Signal detected or they will Stop recording if Signal lost
some Recorders: them is this egal, they record always; even blank Screen (if NO Signal)

Problem: every Recorder reacts different in this Case , You have to figure out

---- so much Information... but one Thing we dont have discuss:
- is the Arris connected 1 Way?
> just straight Arris > Modulator > Panasonic?
OR 2 Way > an other Connection (at the same Time) coming from Arris to TV?

I took a look into the manual of the fracarro and there are quite a lot of settings and DVB-T parameters you can and probably must adjust

Wrong settings may prevent the recorder from recording, though the live picture is working.

Sorry I can not help you with these settings, for example code rate or guard interval, but maybe fracarro can?

As far as i know DVB-T in Slovenia uses MPEG4/H264, whereas DVB-T in Germany used MPEG2. This may be important.

Addition: it is possible to transmit HDTV signals per DVB-T though this was not done in Germany. If the Arris outputs HDTV (1920x1080) on HDMI then the fracarro will convert it and the TV may display it, but the recorder will not record. Therefore I asked you to set the HDMI output of the Arris to 720/576/50i.
