Wanted : floorstanding speakers

Vivek, you can get used ones for as low as 10 - 15k. There is no upper limit!! If you could tell us what budget you're looking at (+ your music taste, associated electronics and so on) it would be easier for the forum members to give recommendations!
However, if you feel uncomfortable about discussing teh budget in public, you can always use PM any of the members!

Vivek, I think it would help if you mentioned certain details such as:
- Budget
- Area of listening space
- Other/related equipment owned/to-be-purchased, i.e. amplifier/receiver, etc.
- Genre(s) of music you listen to
- Application: Music or movies, and ratio if both

Prices can start from as little as 15k.

hi ppl,

thanks for replies. i would be happy to buy anything below 12k i will buy amp which will best suit the speakers. my primary objective is to procure spearks first or if there is a good combo deal that will great. I like to listen to music loud and clear.

Two speakers that come to mind immediately are:
Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 (12.5k)
Mordaunt Short 902i (11k)
Sonodyne speakers may fall in this range as well.

I wonder if there is anything out there @ 12K INR that will play 'music loud and clear' ?

I would strongly suggest 'computer speakers' at this price range. At 7-8 K they will be self amplified. Best V.F.M. products - Altec Lansing............

Yes, but both are bookshelf speakers, not floorstanders. Still worth your consideration though. You should look for used Wharfedale Diamond 8.4s for a good deal on a floorstander.

As for Jamo S406 I believe Cinebels is the dealer in India:

You want a loud clear and decent sounding floorstander...go and listen to Sonodyne Sonus 2605 towers...I think you wouldnt look further...but they are close to 20k (finance option available at 0% intrest at the showroom).

hey abhi and ppl ,

i checked sonus 2605 they are awesome the guy also suggested me to check 1601 as it fits my budget :). Also i saw yamaha 7390. so bit confused what to go for and below is also suggested wharfedale. Wharfedale also another series which zaldek and xarus what u ppl think of those and sonus 1601 and jamo 406. any more inputs would be greatly appreciable.

Wharfedale zaldek and xarus are the very dingchak kind of speakers. If disco / club is your kind of thing then knock yourself out with these. I would prefer to stay with the diamonds if wharfedales. Great vfm they are.
Not sure about the yamaha speakers though. I would stick to sonodyne / wharfedale diamonds (8.4, if you can get them).

Hi Vivek,
Sonus 1601 is a crap....they are just sophisticated mass-market stuff, nothing hifi about them....stay away from them.
Diamond 8.4 is good but they are inclined towards classical and Jazz music...if you listen to a lot of Jazz and classical then they are really good but if you are into all kinds of music (Jazz, rock, pop, fusion, bollywood etc etc) then nothing beats the Sonus 2605 under 20k IMHO.

Dear Vivek,
This is a forum of HiFi aficionados, one of the many sections in this forum also happens to be Buy & Sell.However do appreciate that this forum is not like ebay, where you will find lots of goodies on offer.

So if you are in a hurry to get that pair of speakers, you might be better off visiting ebay.

Else be a tad patient and see what comes your way.

I'd still prefer the Wharfs over Sonodyne. Vivek, I suggest u listen to both of em' and go in for whichever suits your ears!

Similar thoughts here. I listen to Jazz, classic rock, heavy rock, classical (western and Hindustani). I owned the 8.4 once. The 8.4 is an okay speaker with all these genres. They don’t shine in any department. They have a typical warmish-brit voicing so are quite listenable with Jazz so people mistake it for a speaker designed for Jazz and classical. Only when you mature in your Jazz and classical tastes, you realize what you are missing with the 8.4’s. The sonodyne is pretty bad with all these. They are like the “ jack of all trades” speaker. Quite tinny and shrill sounding to me.
