Savya, I see that you have been seduced by the tube glow during the night time!!

"The starving Student Millet Hybrid", eh?
Starving students usually do not have Apple iPhones!!

Anyway, congrats on your 2nd tube amp - you on a roll now (pun intended!).

haha..I sure am by the tube glow. I was hoping no one would notice the iphone and the starving student title.

The starving student is not an amp that I can roll tubes on (uses the 19J6 tube) but the Compact tube hybrid surely is..Currently have an RCA 5963 on it. The CTH can roll both 12.6 and 6.3 volts heater type tubes..so I have at least 10 different types of tubes to roll not to mention the different versions of each...lot of fun rolling 6 tubes on it now. Will go by the surplus store tomorrow and get some more tubes to roll on it.

Next two upcoming projects are a much bigger hybrid amplifier and a DIY Stax amplifier..Have got boards already for the bigger hybrid amps and tubes(6CG7, 6FQ7, 12SN7GT), boards confirmed for the stax amp.

This man had so much promise. Now he is completely and truely a goner

I hope the fetching little lady you got is aware of the impending competition and doing all she can to retain your attention, which I am sure will be tested quite severely in the days to come.

This is just wrong...I just switched out a Sylvania 12Au7a with a 12BH7A Gold Aero..My God the difference in sound..SO much more livelier..Was looking at the prices for some of the more sought after tubes for this amp on ebay..made me gulp. Glad that it doesn't need more than one tube. Else no way could I afford a few bugle boys and other more sought after tubes..I really have fallen into a rabbit hole with this amp ..my first every tube amp..

a quote from the designer of the amp regarding what tubes can be rolled on the little fella

These are the types that I think you can roll:

12au7 variants
ecc82
6680
6189
5963
7316
5814

6922
6dj8
8614 (12.6V 6922)

6n1p

12bh7

12at7 (may or may not work)

any other tube that has the same pinout as 12au7 and an operating point that is not terribly different.

There may be more than I have listed.

Furthermore, because the front end uses a nice servo mechanism you don't have to adjust any trimpots when you swap tubes. The only adjustment will be the slide switch for the heater supply that will select between 6.3V and 12.6V.

Hi Savyasaachi,

In India you'll get a lot of BELs, and a few Mullards, if you're lucky. That's it, just your luck.

You're better off buying valves there - atleast you'll get genuine stuff.

From my experience I can speak to the prices of the 6DJ8 & 6922 - prices are spot-on! Every other place I have checked are selling at exactly $8/tube for these 2 varieties.

Interesting that the 5841A is going cheaper than the stock ECC82. The former is a milspec tube and can only be NOS. The construction is much better than the ECC82. This is from my personal experience. Grab them!

Sylvania 6DJ8 is middle of road variety. I would prefer the BEL E88CC gold pin over it any day. But then the tubes are a vanishing tribe. Stock up on any thing that you need to last a lifetime.
