"Misplaced Childhood" wurde jetzt offiziell von Marillion via Facebook bestätigt

Following the demise of our old record company EMI, our first 8 albums were taken up by Warner Music. With our assistance, they have decided it’s time to bring those albums up to date. The first album to get the makeover will be Misplaced Childhood. The package will include a 5.1 mix by Steven Wilson and a new stereo master taken from the original analog 1/2” tape. This will be used to make a new vinyl and CD version which we believe to be superior to the 1998 re-master. There will also be a documentary video on the Blu-ray version about the making of the album featuring Marillion, producer Chris Kimsey and Fish, where we reveal some previously untold stories about the writing and recording of Misplaced Childhood. We hope you will enjoy revisiting this album when it’s released in July. It is available to pre-order now:

Wie jeder weiß, ist dieses Album absolut digital auf einer 3M Maschine aufgenommen worden, heißt sowohl Multitrack als auch Mastertape sind digital. Wer sich das kauft, kann nicht bei Verstand sein... (abgesehen davon, dass sowohl die 1st Japan Press 32XD, 1st Press West German, DVD-Audio usw. usw. defacto alle sehr gut klingen.... zwar alle sehr anämisch aber trotzdem sehr konturiert).

Nun bekommen auch die Indiehelden der 80iger ihre Special Edition

Warners will issue a four-disc deluxe edition of The Smiths‘ 1986 album The Queen Is Dead in October this year. The album is generally considered to be the band’s best work (although for this writer Strangeways, Here We Come gives it a good run for its money) and features the classic There Is A Light That Never Goes Out (only a single in France at the time, fact fans). There are three physical formats for this release – which as you will note has updated artwork – a 3CD+DVD deluxe includes the remastered album, a bonus CD of demos, alternates and b-sides, a further CD: Live In Boston (recorded at the Great Woods Center For The Performing Arts on August 5, 1986) and a DVD featuring the 2017 master of the album in 96kHz / 24-bit PCM stereo. The DVD also includes The Queen Is Dead – A Film By Derek Jarman. A five-LP box set (good value in the UK at £57) includes all the audio listed above, and a two-CD edition pairs the remaster with the bonus disc of demos etc. All formats of this The Queen Is Dead reissue will be released on 20 October 2017. The four-disc deluxe is well-priced (similar to Prince) and is currently £25 in the UK (this may even come down further).

Queen - News of the World (40th Anniversary Edition)

Universal Music will mark the 40th anniversary of Queen‘s 1977 album News Of The World with a five-disc super deluxe edition. The new package includes the original album on CD (the Bob Ludwig 2011 remaster) and two further CDs of recently unearthed outtakes and rarities including ‘Raw Sessions’ an alternative version of the whole album which brings to light never-before-heard alternative versions of each of the album’s 11 tracks. The record label promises that “every lead vocal is different” on Raw Sessions and as are most of the lead guitar parts and many other instrumental details. We Are The Champions is the full-length version of the song and not the edited 1977 album cut and All Dead, All Dead features Freddie Mercury on vocals, rather than Brian May. Fight From The Inside, is Roger Taylor’s demo vocal version (worked on in his home studio in preparation for the next sessions). The fourth optical disc is a DVD which features a brand new one-hour documentary “Queen: The American Dream” created from backstage material filmed during Queen’s 1977 USA News of the World tour. The 40th anniversary of News Of The World also includes a vinyl version of the album – a “pure analogue” re-cut of the original “direct from the unmastered analogue master mix tapes”. Finally, this set comes with a 60-page book of images and a selection of NOTW related memorabilia (including three posters). This News Of The World 40th anniversary edition is released on 17 November 2017.

Für mich scheint es eher so als ob man testen will wieviele Versionen eines Songs man in einer SE unterbringen kann
ich mein - achtmal "We will rock you", gehts noch ?

Frankie goes to Hollywood - Welcome to the Pleasuredome

BMG will reissue Frankie Goes To Hollywood‘s 1984 album Welcome To The Pleasuredome in October under their new ‘Art of the Album’ banner. According to BMG their ‘Art of the Album’ is about “celebrating the album as an art form” and the sleeve notes (written by Paul Flynn) in both the vinyl and CD reissues will explore specific aspects to the album such as ‘The Key Players’, ‘The Songwriting’, ‘The Production’ and ‘The Legacy’ etc. What this and other reissues under ‘Art of the Album’ umbrella don’t do is offer any bonus audio. You just get the standard album. That in itself is a fluid concept for Welcome To The Pleasuredome, since the original CD edition didn’t match the vinyl LP or cassette. However, the original vinyl track listing has established itself in recent years as the defacto ‘official’ version of the album. The single CD release will come packaged as a hardcover book (also known as a ‘casebound book’) and the vinyl will be the usual gatefold double LP. The vinyl uses the same mastering as the Sainsbury’s white vinyl exclusive from last year and the CD is the same as the 25th anniversary remaster from 2010. For the time being, both editions of this ‘art of the album’ version of Welcome To The Pleasuredome can be pre-ordered exclusively via PledgeMusic. They will be issued on 17 October 2017.

Propaganda - A secret Wish

BMG will continue with their ‘art of the album’ reissue campaign with new CD and vinyl editions of Propaganda‘s 1985 album A Secret Wish. Remastered from the original tapes ‘for the first time’, the vinyl and CD reissues will replicate the original ZTT vinyl LP / CD track listings. Fans will be aware that these are very different in terms of sequencing and mixes (the CD runs nearly 12 minutes longer than its vinyl counterpart). Like previous ‘art of the album’ reissues (such as Frankie‘s Welcome To The Pleasuredome) these don’t offer any bonus audio, but what they do offer (apart from the new remastering, which was undertaken by Joel Peters) is new presentation and fresh notes. Ian Peel (who has curated all of the ZTT reissues in the last five or six years) has written new sleeve notes which tell the story of the players, the craft, the impact and the legacy of the album through interviews with band members and producer Stephen Lipson. The vinyl LP includes a six-page booklet and a 12″ x 12″ art card. The CD comes in a hardcover book (sometimes referred to as a casebound book) and features the notes in a 32-page booklet. Because of the aforementioned audio differences between CD and LP, this is one occasion where there’s an incentive to pick up both formats (assuming you have a turntable!).

Roxy Music’s ground-breaking debut album is expanded in an exclusive super-deluxe package featuring rare and previously unavailable material. It represents the first time Roxy Music’s archives have been opened, offering rare and genuinely never-heard-before material outside Roxy’s inner circle. Compiled with the group’s involvement, the 3CD / DVD 12” X 12” box set includes the original album including ‘Virginia Plain’, the demo tape that led to their first record deal plus the legendary BBC Sessions that saw the group hone their craft. There’s also an entire disc, exclusive to this format, of previously unheard studio outtakes prepared exclusively by Bryan Ferry and producer Rhett Davies including alternate session versions for every album track and ‘Virginia Plain’. The original album is presented in the 1999 Bob Ludwig master, while the reminder of the audio has been mastered by Frank Arkwright at Abbey Road. The DVD includes promos and BBC TV appearances as well rare footage of Roxy at the Bataclan Club in Paris in November 1972, the only surviving capture of this line-up live on stage. To round the audio/visual elements of the set off, lifetime admirer Steven Wilson has mixed the album into 5.1 DTS 96/24 and Dolby AC3 Sound. Seven years in the making, the box set also contains a 136-page book printed on hi-gloss 170gsm paper curated by Bryan Ferry, containing many rare and previously unpublished photographs, and an essay by Guardian journalist and author Richard Williams, the man who first wrote about the group in Melody Maker in 1971.

On 9th February 2018, Parlophone will release the 40th anniversary ‘New Shoes Edition’ of Heavy Horses, a 3CD/ 2DVD boxset featuring the original album, plus additional studio recordings, live material and an extensive new booklet. Ian Anderson explains its particular focus on horses and agricultural life saying, “As a child, my big passion was to get off the leash and explore the local wooded and leafy suburbs. So it didn’t suddenly become new in 1977, it was just that the subject matter fitted what I wanted to write about at the time.”
