Mr murthy from bangalore seems to make a good one.

I have been recommended by amp designers that a good isolation transformer of 1 or 2KVA would do the trick. nothing audiophile about this bit of equipment.

monster sells some stuff but is very expensive and dont know if its worth the money. Designer audio(quad dealer) also has a model.

Then there is PS audio stuff which is mindblowingly expensive.

manek.

I second Manek.. in fact the difference of a power conditioner was very obvious.. especially i remember an incident at Prithvis room when we were wondering why a Dynaudio/linn setup was sounding garbled.. we just connected the power to Mr Murthys conditioner and it all cleared up!

but that thing is as big as a subwoofer and looks like one too

sachi was also there that day

I personallly used a Xindak power conditioner which i got from Singapore. i found it pretty effective

What's the cost? Did you get it at Adelphi?
In % terms how much of difference does this make? Would good power cords not make enough difference?

Not in Adelphi. there is shop in Bukit Timah Plaza called X-Audio which imports MIC products. run by a guy called Swee
Alos deals in Proac and Usher among others.

http://www.xaudio.com.sg/xaudio/product.htm

Very nice and helpful guy.

there is a new conditioner by Xindak which has an isolation transformer at around 450 SGD. supposedly better. mine is the older XF1000

i really dont know about percentage difference but what it did was that the background became cleaner.

cannot really comment on the bass improvement sice my room gave a bump to the acoustics ar around 45 to 50Hz causing some bloom anyway and nothing other than room treatment and Digital equilisation could clear that

I also use a Xindak PC02 power chord. i am not sure if it has made any difference but makes me feel good having it and that is enough value for money for me.

Very true Arj,
Murthy's PWR CON is really worth it and the best part is that he sells it on a trial basis, if you like it then buy it. The one you saw at my place is a 3kva, & weighs 90kgs. He also makes 500va, 1kva, 1.5kva and 2kva. Personally 90% of my clients have gone in for his power con as well as his interconnects & power cables.

Anyone interested can contact him on : 080-25588077 & speak to him directly.

Amplifier : Coda Technologies S5 power amplifier [V. Good]
Pre-Amplifier : Classe Omega Preamplifier MkIII [V. Good]
CD Player : Classe CDP-102 CD player. [Change - Must !]

You have a great Power Amplifier. Even you pre is nice. Keep these 2 components. I like them both.

http://www.classeaudio.com/omega/detail-pre-amp-mklll.htm
http://www.classeaudio.com/omega/specs/preamp.htm

Instead of spending on a Power Conditioner, consider an upgrade on your CD Player.

Look for a nice CD Player to compliment the set up.

The money would be well spent; IHMO.

BOB

P.S. Many of the 'top end' electronic component manufacturers 'do a lot of things' to the power that comes in. They will 'not recommend' any power conditioner. Specially Coda. Write to them & see the reply that you get. They suggest to connect to the wall mains only. I have this in print on my computer - somewhere.

In fact, this is a player for you to buy.

http://www.classeaudio.com/omega/specs/sacd2.htm

It will go perfectly with your pre amplifier.

I do understand that it [Omega] will cost a bit more than your 'power conditioner' but if you can sell your 'old' Classe' CD Player, save & add a bit, you should be home with the Omega SACD II.

Consider.

Dear Bob,

Thanks a lot for your compliment. Yes CD player needs an upgrade and I bought this model as I ran out money. Cables also need upgrade. I'm really not convinced enough to spend more on these i.e. conditioners.

http://www.classeaudio.com/omega/detail-sacd-2.htm

Is what I have in mind too but have to scrape some real cash.

Hi Chandra !

Do you not feel that your pre & power amp are too good for your speakers ?

John Tan [in Singapore] gave you a 'good deal' ?
That is why you also use Nordost ? He distributs Nordost & VTL too;;;;;;;

But on a serious note, if you know John Tan well, consider the Gamut CD Player. I like that player a lot. Besides it is a very very cheap alternative to the Classe' Omega SACD 2. It las a list of US $'s 3500/- & will be phased out next month. The new CD Player from Gamut is on the cards & he [Mr. Tan] is desperate to sell his stock. He will give it to you @ 2/- K or so. Please do consider it.

On the Cable front, if you can afford it [well in your budget, I mean] then buy the Nordost SPM reference Speaker Cable. It is too good. It is on demo in a friends house in Bombay if you ever do drop by.

Regards,

BOB

Bob,

Is that 2K SGD or USD?

I will be in Singapore next week. Can look this up since you recommend it so highly. Where is this J Tan available? Adelphi?

If you know, what would be the price of the Classe' Delta series? Just curious. Super looking stuff...do they sound as good as they look?

Also, what is the price range of the Nordost spker cables that you mention?

Gamut CD Player is 2 K US $'s - at least........
[Actually you may get one here in Mumbai from Hermit Audio for 1.5 to 1.75 lacs - if you were interested].

John Tan is in Adelphi. 2nd floor on the side of the escillator. Sells PSB + NAD + VTL + Nordost + Gamut etc.

The Classe' Delta series is available in Mumbai @ Mr. Cooper's place.
In Singapore the shop in on the 3rd floor of Paragon Shopping Centre [Orchard Road]. The distributor there sells Wisdom Audio + B & W + Classe' etc. I am not so sure if he will sell gear to Indians. However, you may try your luck.
There is a Grey Market chap that sells the gear in SIngapore too. He is @ Roxy Shopping Centre. The guys name is Glen. Company is called Soundrealms. Do drop by for a visit. One never knows what you may find there. However be a little careful, he is very famous for 'pulling one out of his hat' !!!

All the best !

Oh, I almost forgot, about the Nordost Cables;
I am not a great fan of Nordost Cables, however since 'buzzer' was using Nordost, I suggested an upgrade.
Besides the cables are difficult to take care of.
They are very very fast cables, but a bit lean in the 'bass'

If your system a little 'too much' in the lower band, then Nordost is a great cable to go for.

Nordost now has a new distributor in India. It was with Sound of Music [New Delhi] till 6 months back [I think], but now Soundsmiths sells it [Mumbai].

Nordost has 3 ranges. The 'Bottom' level is not worth a mention. The Flatline Series
The 'Middle' level is great. Best price to performance. The Norse Series.
The 'Top of the Line' range is 'Reference'.
However, its prices are way too high.

Roxy - where is it ? I do not know the street name, but 1 think is for sure, you get the best Chicken Rice just across the street from there. You can ask around & you will get its location. There are 3 shops there, all belong tot he same fellow & he gives very very good prices !

Hermit Audio is in Fort. They do have a web site [same name], none the less the office contact numbers are :-
2204 7654 & 2204 4001 & 2204 4000 [Mr. Sadik].

Bob, othrs,

Thanks for pointing me towards the Roxy square outlet. It was good. There are about 4 shops there selling preowned equipment. Biggest is Sound Realms but now renamed Jen Hong. Good stuff but trifle high in prices. But he had better preowned stuff than most other shops in Adelphi. Some terriffic Classe amps (mid 90s models tho') and lots of hi end.
This place is going to be a regular haunt of mine during my future visits!

And on those culinary tips, alas, I am a vegetarian!

Thanks anyway.
