Recently i bought a BitHead from US . http://www.headphone...om-total-bithead.php It connects to the USB on my laptop as well as the headphone out of my ipod . I can even connect it to the line out of my ipod through the "pocket dock (sendstation). But i found the sound did not differ much from heaphones out Well my impressions about this product: 1) Its an AMAZING product . I challenge anyone with any good hi end system to compare to the sound of this bit head. Its thats good. Instruments and voice are almost exactly like live. I use a PX 100 senn cans as well as a HD 555 ... Let me explain a bit more: 1) The bass is "phat" its so organic yet lean and accurate. I never heard a thump all i heard was the instruments. its is 99% live trust me i know what live sounds like. 2) The higs are "enlightened" , airy , sweet ,articulate. 3) An acid test for the bithead is the "Chesky records ultimate demo disk" and my god it breathed through it effortlessy .All the high end characteristics were there right on spot . 4) People listening felt that were so shocked to know that the sound was coming from the cans .During the initial 2 mins they though the music has not started and what they were hearing was coming from the outside. Finally , you cannot help but be lost in the music ..... Its all there , the dyanamics of Starvinsky, The hall reverberations of female voices , the string pluck (I can amlost feel them being plucked). Yu can feel the studio in some recordings..... I am happy as well as sad. happy because i never thought that i could have musical nirvana in 200 $ and then i am sad becuuse now i know my main system is hiding the truth from me and i dont know how much time it will take to listen to the same level on a stereo system......... :-( Anyone is Hyderabad is welcome to audition the BitHead!!!!!!!!! |

the Headphone Vs regular speakers is another "classic" in audio discussions. If headphones are your thing then they definitely produce a more accurate sound than speakers as they remove the most critical influencing factor from the equation ie the Room. i would suggest you to connect an subwoofer to your amp (YES !) so that you get the tactile effect of bass below 40 as well to further enhance your experience But headphones are not really evryones cup of tea.. I personally do not mind it for casual sessions while travelling ; but if I want to do any serious listening i find the "voices inside my head" pretty uncomfortable. |

You are right arj, but i have to see the subs are darn expensive (really good ones) .I have already started saving for one :-) . But i dont agree for voices inside my head atleast that is not the case with a decent headphone and a good headphone amplifier. But one thing i noticed is ultimately headphone sound is dangerous as your ears get fatigue faster ....... |

The bithead is good. It should sound the best off the USB port as you get digital signals and the DAC stuff is done inside the bithead and then amplified. It is one of the best bargains out there for headphone lovers. Sadly, like Arj, I cannot stand any headphone for more than an hour. Here is a stereophile article on the same http://www.stereophile.com/headphones/1204headroom/ |

glad to read that you have found audio 'nirvana' at such cheap price! you are indeed lucky! Some of us audio nuts go an entire lifetime w/o finding it! headphones are OK & IMHO they are good for non-intrusive listening esp when the rest of the family is sleeping & you are listening late at night. Like you said, the fatigue factor is much higher altho some correctly engineered headphones like the Sennheiser HD680 (hope I'm remembering the model # correctly) & some top-of-the-line AKGs reduce this a lot. Like Arjun, I seem to have an issue w/ 'voices in my head'. I also noticed that the 3-Dness of the music/the spatial separation esp for orchestral works is not present in headphones. With headphones you get only 1 type of music delivery - front row centre. There are many other types depending on the recording & a correctly setup 2-ch can allow each recording to present itself like it was meant to. IMHO the naturalness of the sound, the "liveness" of it, the enlightened/airy/sweet highs are all a means to an end - an attempt to reproduce the same dynamic feeling that occured at the recording venue. I know, I know that we can not get anywhere close but a well setup 2-ch can come significantly close. IMHO, a headphone cannot. You are off to a very good start as Headroom makes some of the best headphone gear in the market. Use the listening experience from your headphones to work on your 2-ch. You'll learn a heck of a lot on playback sound, what does & doesn't make it tick & all the subtlties that make reproduced music fun to listen to. Don't be dejected by your worse perf of your 2-ch; rather, accept it as a challenge to make it better. From my own experience,I've found that once you know what you are doing, it won't cost you too much money to make your 2-ch sound superb. |

Thanks for your post bombaywalla yes you are right being in symphony hall sometimes at the rear and sometimes in the front i know exactly what you mean. But anyhow i feel the choice of how a recording should sound should be decided by the artists not the engineers. Most often its a kind of sync between the two. I have seen this in a very few recordings.
I am still to come to this point trust me i listened to some very fine systems but always i found out the room hit the sound pretty bad .Its more in the room than in the system i feel... |
