Well after some demos I have now decided my system. I will start off with NAD C320BEE and Dali Concept 6 for now. My LG DVD Player will be the source. I have also Worldspace Radio in my plans for background music. I am converting my MP3 to CDs now to do justice to my system.

In the end my wife and mom decided the speakers for me. Yes, I took them along for demo. They had no idea about brand, reputation, etc and I played Dali, MA and Wharfedale for them. Both picked Dali.

Thanks to all of you for your advice and suggestions and wish me luck.

Good choice man. Congrats.
Make sure you change that dvd player soon. The source is important.

No infact, I meant converting MP3 (of atleast 128 kbps) to Audio CD using Nero. Actually, the shop from where I will be buying, used a CD-R for demo. It had songs converted from MP3 to Audio CD. I found the recording better than original Audio CD. Hence, I am converting my favourite songs from MP3 to Audio CD format now.

well you dont lose anything other than lots of disk space

just imagine converting an Audio cd to MP3 means you throw out a lot of information into the dustbin..so reconverting back to Audio CD will increase the size of the track..but no additional info is going to be put in.. same quality more space !

That's what I thought and never burnt a Audio CD myself. Then I listened a track from Lagaan on this CD-R which is definitely better recorded than the original Audio CD (not MP3). I clarified as to how it was recorded and the seller said that his brother created the CD from hard disk. That essentially means converting MP3s back to CD.

I went through the help files of Windows Media Player, iTunes and Nero. All these software can create Audio CD from MP3. Neither described whether actually the details to be put in CD increased in the process. Nero has got some additional filters for these conversion like volume levelling, fade in, fade out. But the actual process is still not clear to me.

Hence I started to do what I thought best. Selected some of my favourite tracks above 128kbps in Stereo in MP3 format and created an Audio CD. Cannot make out much difference from MP3 quality but then I am not using NAD/ Dali yet.

Can someone throw more light on this. Maybe a separate topic.

the only reason a MP3 cd can sound worse than an audio cd created from it is that MP3 is compressed hence the processing required in the cdp to "Un compress" may not be up to the mark.. in that case try comparing the Audio out of your computer with the Audio cd ?

128 is not really a great bitrate to try all that I actually find that quite irritating especially in the treble and midrange. High frequency is particularly irritating. you may not find too much of obvious problems in the BAss.

..256+ onwards things are much better.

Koushik,
The thing that you are saying is very difficult to digest or even argue upon.
Ok, so which system did you use to compare the Lagaan Original Audio CD and its MP3 converted to Audio CD ?
I have the Lagaan Audio CD and they are well recorded.
Sometimes while converting to Mp3 and re-converting the mp3 to Audio CD, people increase the gain and they sound louder than the original Audio CD and that "loudness" is mistook for better quality. That "loudness" sounds attractive on a mediocre system but clearly shows its weakness on a hifi...so better not get carried away with your friend's tricks who I am sure himself wouldnt know all this quality Vs loudness aspect.

hi,

Abhi is right.

Even I have created a lot of Audio CD's with mp3 tracks (128kbps).

It is true that software's like Nero provide tools (like stereo widening, fade-in/fade-out etc.) to enhance the sound of mp3 tracks, which i always make sure to use when I create an audio track, otherwise u will not like the sound of the CD track.

I use a normal DVD player as my source for every thing and i myself can make out the difference between an mp3 and decently recorded audio cd.

If you want to compare how it sounds try listening to the mp3 version and original CD version of the same track on the same setup. I am sure u will find a difference.

Regards - Sunil

Sunil yes the diffrence is very very apparent and infact the mp3's sound too depressed to me.There is hardly any spacing and sound seems to come from speakers straight at you.. Beleive me you have to listen to 16 kbps and will know what crap mp3's are..hehehehe

Hey Abhi Pani who are those two phoren uncles????? You seem to have taken a fancy to phoren uncles nowadays...

If I were to add my 2 paisa..you better stick to MP3 as your DVD player can play both, or if you convert to audio you are off spending money on blank CD's
