A doubt with a twist!

After waiting patiently, I've got my room back, so am ready to move in. Now, I don't a system yet, but will be of course getting one in the "near" future
The thing is, my computer table is "wall mounted", hence want to make sure I place it properly for when my speakers arrive.

Here's my room,

Here's a pic of my table and chair.

Given my small size of my room, I'll be most probably going for wall mounted speakers.

Zhop...here's what I would suggest...

Place the bed in the corner opposite to the wardrobe.
Move the PC table between the door and the bed.
Place your system where you bed is now. Go for smaller standmounts that can be placed against/close to the wall rather than wall mounted speakers.
When you want to listen to the system, place the chair against your bed facing the system. This way you'd be around 5 feet away from the system's center and the speakers would have more space to their sides.

I had gone through a smiliar situation (minus the bed) and placing the system along the longer wall of the room helped me.

Thanks for replying

Can't do that, as my PC table is 4' long. It won't fit. With the layout that I've shown, I thought of mounting the speakers above the PC table. That way, I can enjoy them when I'm on my PC (most of the times) and for serious listening, I can sit on my bed.

And when I say wall mounted speakers, I don't necessarily mean specific on-wall speakers. Even small bookshelves which can be mounted will do.

Can you put the PC table on the wall opposite the wardrobe ?

That way you can put your speakers (On stands..never on the walls) along the long walls firing onto the bed..which can be your listening spot.

with that side reflections would be well eliminated..

just one option..may not be the best..

Yes, I did think of that initially. But then I wouldn't be able to enjoy my music when I'm using my PC (which is most of the times)......

Maybe I should just get a laptop

BTW: Is it like an accepted fact that wall mounted speakers don't sound good?

well you can get a really long IC/Single jack audio cable and connect your music out to the Hifi amp.

Or get something like an Air port express/SB etc to stream musinc either wirelessly or via a ethernet cable into your Hifi..

regarding wall mounting..what is required for a speaker is a very solid base for resting. If you want to do a wall mouting there are specific platforms available to do that (Similiar to wall mounted TVs) but you lose the flexibity to move it as it becomes permanent.

err.....my source is my PC. Won't be buying a cdp What I meant was, if I place the PC table opposite to the wardrobe, then I won't be facing the speakers.

From whatever reviews I read of on-wall speakers, I think the main problem is that since typical american houses have thin walls, the speakers also have to be lightweight - which means lacking in bass. Since we don't have that problem here (I wouldn't even mind hanging a 50kg speaker), I thought wall mounting would be a viable solution to my space problem.

In that case, I would suggest you go for a good PC speaker set...JBL has one which is very good...costs abt 9K I think...

I already have good PC speakers. Altec Lansing MX5021. Very good as far as PC speakers are concerned.

Hifi speakers are much superior to computer speakers. In a room with a space constraint, sub sats are a good option:
Lithos Noa1s with matching sub
Genies with Power Pack from Sonodyne
Other foreign brands...

Putting bookshelves might be difficult as they will need space from side and rear walls to sound their best
Flrs may simply boom

OMG! So much confusion!

Let me try to clarify things. I currently have decent PC speakers, and a good sound card. Sometime in the (near) future, I'll be upgrade to a stereo amp (maybe integrated), and a pair or bookshelves. I hope there are some bookshelves which can be mounted. My source will remain my PC. Later on, I might buy a good DAC.
My PC table is fixed to the wall, hence I need some suggestion for its placement, keeping in mind my future speaker purchase.

Ok?

I am not confused. How dare you say such a thing
I too use a PC as my source (n-Force 2 soundcard). Problem is if you have a PC, you will sit right in front of it most of the time. Correct?
Bookshelves usually have 2 drivers. They won't integrate at a distance less than 1 metre (tech gurus, correct me if I err). Therefore, an audiophile quality sub-sat (Lithos, Sonodyne, etc) will work both in the near field (when you are at your PC) and in the mid field (when you are sitting on your bed). They will also wall mount on sturdy brackets.
I am not suggesting a change in your room layout. Just hang any wall carpet above your bed to minimise reflections.
If you insist on a bookshelf, you will need to move your computer table away from the wall (which will involve room layout changes). Will your PC table fit along the 9ft wall adjacent to the door? Do consult forum gurus on which bookshelves will work in near field too.

Zhopudey,

Try listening to Polk Audio Rti-4 Speakers. They are the "bookshelf" variety which can be literally wall mounted, the way you hang a photo frame. The construction is such that it is a rear ported enclosure but is recessed at the point where the wall screw protrudes in. You can therefore hang it on the wall with one screw and still have the rear port open.

All this only if you like the sound. As always trust your ears.

Behram.

hehehehe I will look into sub-sats as well. But, aren't there any good front ported bookshelves which can be mounted? The monitor audio Bronze B2 are front ported, aren't they?

At this point, if I had to select between a wall-mountable BS and a good sub sat combo...I would stick to Sub-satt...the reason is, a good sub-satt does a very good job with Stereo (imaging and all that) and is not fussy about placement...whereas to get a good sound from a BS you need to play around with the placement a lot for which you dont have the flexibility...not good a option IMO dude

Hmm....so I'll start reading up on sat-subs now The brands I know of are lithos, sonodyne, deftech, KEF, anthony gallo and mirage. Am I missing anyone?

I am not buying these anytime soon, though. But it never hurts to read about them, does it?
