They are called Classic Golden Ratio Fonkens by Dave their designer.
http://www.planet10-hifi.com/fonken.html

Currently driven by a SONY CD player and the t-amp in a 12'x12' room. It has very clear sound and highs are a little sharp. I find the base a little boomy during certain songs. I have lined the speaker inside walls with 12mm cotton/wool felt. I haven't added any filling as of now but I do have some recron ready.
Have a few questions. Any help will be deeply appreciated.

1. Can I reduce the "boomy"ness by speaker alignment?
2. The design recommends adding some filing under the driver. How will this affect the final sound?
3. How should I position the speaker with respect to the walls for the most optimum sound.

Thanks!

Why not invite forum members over for a listening session and get their suggestions about the sound. Those speakers sure look enticing.

For technical matters, I'm sure Sachi, ampnut and other DIYers would be glad to help.

hi vjcritic,

looks good! congrats! which drivers have you used?

are these speakers rear ported? or is that the port in front at the bottom? try placing them further away from the back wall. it might reduce boominess. regarding optimum position trial and error and listening is the only way you'd get to a good spot. my gut feel looking at the size is to give them lots of breathing space in front/back and sideways. first try spacing them apart left/right to get a decent soundstage. then front/back for less/more bass.

i second neutral, invite us over! hope you're in bangalore? would love to hear another single driver speaker.

Good to see more Indians ghetting involved in DIY.

I am a newbie when it comes to single driver speakers. Dave is a very nice chap and he like almost all Canadians have gone the single driver route. You will probably find 75% of Canadian DIYers doing mostly single driver builds.
There seems to be a thread on the same on diyaudio.com. Pursue your questions there and you will surely find some replies. PM Dave with your questions, he will reply(he did to me).

Congrats on the build...keep it going VJ.

Cheers,
Saachi

Thanks Saachi. I am pretty much following Dave's Ideas but I am getting stuck in parts which require experienced ears. I guess the only way is to let others listen to my gear and suggest ways of improving their performance.

Experienced ears??...don't you have a few favourite artists whose songs are familiar to you. Just keep a reference(your SR225 for instance) of a few songs that you know and see what you are hearing from the fonkens...

Play around with placement and possibly even using a different source.

I would go with polyfill or glasswool for stuffing. recron didn't work for me.
