I had the chance to listen to them @ Audio Show in Mumbai - Hyatt Hotel, 3 years back;
Do not remember the model name. Met the designer too.
Cannot remember how the sound was.

Guys,

I have the 2nd Rethm on demo . Am driving it with a Unison Research S6 SET CLass A tube amp. CDP is the Plinius 101, waiting for the Linn Akurate CDP & the Akurate DS to come.

Will be getting the brand new sadhaana's very soon.

Will not be carring the Marga ( my wife will surely throw me out)

Kamal, not an extensive audition at all but 30 mins.

Bhagwan,
I heard those as well at the same function but as I remember right those were without the bass module at the time. Aplicfication was his own design too. Cables were bare with no insulation, I noticed that and remember that very well.

From the other things I remember, I didnt come away too impressed at the time but I remember noting that the midrange was very good(voices), though overal sound lacking in bass and lacking in top end extension big time. I remember meeting the designer too and he mentioned something about the room and stuff but....I guess thats what every one says when things are not right at hotel room demo's. I heard small trio jazz(oscar peterson) and the bass roll off was very evident. Big band sound was just not big band at all at the time. Small chamber music orchestra sounded very nice.

There was also a smaller speaker which had a full range driver (5"if I remember correctly) designed by Peerless India.

I have heard the sadhana’s extensively at the designer’s place. It is basically an improved version of the 2nd rethm. It has a custom designed integrated bass module which integrates beautifully with the lowther full range driver. The bass roll off which you noticed with the 2 nd rethm is gone. You get some detailed , fast bass with those now. Setup is very important with these speakers. Correctly setup, these can do some things which conventional multi driver speakers cannot match.
Especially with music like Jazz, western/Indian classical. Rock / classic rock sound good now with the added bass module. Voices and chorals sound ethereal. It can make you feel as if you are in the same room with the artists………..I came away very impressed.

But if you are someone looking for large scale impact at live concert volumes, you may want to look elsewhere.

Recently head about someone who moved from a Martin logan / Parasond JC1 monoblock setup to a Rethm Sadhana / dehavilland 845(Tube) monoblock setup.
Quite a jump from one camp to another…
I sure would love to be in his shoes….

Any idea about the pricing in India?

Their site mentions the price in $$$. Is it a direct conversion to INR?

I remember listning to them at the Hyatt, too.... based on Prithvi's post on this forum to go and listen to them.

The amplifier was a Solid State; Transformer coupled amplifier, that put out either 3 watts or 10 watts ( I cant remember ). The amp was also ( marketed ? ) by Rethm.

Yes, I agree with all of Manek's comments, and the system was playing about 10 dB below what I would have liked to listen to ...

TOTALLY agree... was my impression 3 years ago, atleast for those speakers..

When I said “large scale impact at concert level volumes” I didn’t mean it in a negative way.
How many people would want that level of volumes in their living room / listening room ?
Most people I know would never even approach that volume level.
The positives of the sadhanas far outweigh its inability to play at stupidly high volumes.

To me the ability of a system to reproduce realistic sound pressure in a room, is critical, and as important as say a flat and extended frequency response or good dynamics etc.

To me, for each music piece, there is a critical and 'correct' volume level that sounds JUST RIGHT. Below that, the music looses impact and above that, it jarrs...

Hence it is very important for me that a system be cable of delivering atleast the volume that that music piece calls for.

I had found the demo of the sadhanas with their mating amp, at the Hyatt demo, ( Not a large room by any reckoning ) badly lacking in this aspect.

I am sure it was a setup issue here.
I have found these speakers to sound totally different when it is correctly setup compared to what is possible in a hotel room where you do these shows. It is precisely for this reason that I traveled all the way to the designer’s studio to listen.

amp_nut....you couldnt have put it better......every musical piece has a sweet spot. to give you a funny example......

I remember in the good old days when analogue 'n' band equilizers were the thing to have.....my brother and I had actually mapped nearly each Cd/tape/record with a correct equilizer setting of various frequencies and the amp volume setting on a piece of paper. Ofcourse being brothers some tapes had two pieces of paper...one for me and one for him 'cause there were times we couldnt see eye to eye.....

Those days we had time and the "khujlee" to do it......

But you are right.....

He is an award winning architect and designer. Not an interior designer.

I stand corrected ...

His speakers too are BEAUTIFULLY shapped and finished.. a RADICAL aesthetic departure from typical ( and often awkward ) horn enclosures..
