If it is for HT you should not have any problem as you will only use it for the LFE output.

But most subs have an option of a 220 V (Hsu, Velodyne, SVS etc)hence do explore that...

You shouldn’t have any problem, whatsoever.

All you need is to get a good step-down transformer. I had once faced a similar problem with speakers purchased from the US which had built-in 110V powered subs. I bought a couple of ARCO transformers (they are probably the best) from their shop at Lamington Road, Bombay, and I was in business. I used the speakers and the transformers for over 4 years without any hassles.

you will get them in SP road. but if u are getting the sub from the US i would say it would be better to get the step down transformer also from the US.
mind you the step down transformer needs to be able to supply the sub with more power than the maximum power consumption of the sub.

i posted your query on diyaudio.com and it seems ther would not be any problem with the sub as long as the step down transformer is of good quality.
another suggestion was to look for a sub with a 220volt switch.

hey sub boss
i can not believe how lucky u r..sice yr brother is coming down frm the us i wld say u shld seriously look at the svs subs. their latest model pb10-isd is for just $429 and has some amazing specs and even better reviews. and u can order the 230v model so that u dont hv any problems on that end.
i was seriously looking for a way i cld buy one for myself but the unquantifiable duties etc make it risky. if it werent for that i wld jump at that model. maybe u cld buy two of them and sell me one ?!!!

Hi,

When I was returning from US on TR, I had plenty of 110Volt appliances. I bought two of these.

The best part is it is a voltage regulator. It serves the purpose of both a voltage stabilizer and voltage convertor. Voltage converters are cheaper than the regulator and they both convert 220v to 110v and vice versa.

I bought two of these: http://www.voltageco...6628CC85}&ic=SVC3000

It can convert 110 to 220 and 220 to 110. The best part is it can provide output for 110 and 220 volts SIMULTAENOUSLY. The only drawback I find is it has one 110 volts outlet and two 220 volts outlet and both are shaped similarly though cleary marked. As I have more 110v components than 220 it is a negative for me. If you have only one 110v component then it is great as you can use the other two 220v outlets for connecting your TV and other high value equipments. It also comes with two spare fuses (also available in India) it is compact and cute looking.

It is a servo motor controlled stabilizer (No idea what the heck it does). The one minor drawback is whenever there is a voltage fluctuation for heavry current draw the servo motor makes a brief sound.

Over all I am highly satisfied with this and highly recommend this regulator.

You can find other models at http://www.voltageconverters.com/voltage_regulators.html .

You can find voltage convertors at http://www.voltageconverters.com/voltage_converters.html . Please note that a voltage regulator is slightly expensive compared to a convertor but it also provides very good voltage stabilizer functionality.

If you have any questions, send them an email and they used to reply very promplty.

If you have more than one 110v equipment or plan to own more than one 110v equipment ask your brother to get a good 110v surge protector with atleast 1000joules capacity. Some of the good brands are Tripp Lite, APC, Belkin etc. http://www.tripplite.com/products/product.cfm?productID=2811 is specifically built for home theater. These things cost around $30 to $40. They are a good long term investment.

It has taken me over an hour composing this reply. Hope it is useful to you. If you would like to know what other products to get from US let me know and I can suggest some of the must get products like Networked (RJ-45) based upscaling DVD players with Sigma Designs upscaling chipset etc.
