Hello

I wanto buy a new stereo equipment for about AUS$ 3000.
It should include floor standing speakers, pre amp, amp and an audio cd-player.

What would you suggest?

Hey!

I've recently bought a NAD S-300 and it'S really great.
Maybe about 1500 AUD. Maybe less or more.
You should test it!

See the thread "amp better than marantz pm-7000" for details.

Speakers: Do you have any special brand in mind? And how big is your hifi room?

Player: I'm using a marantz cd6000le and this one is really good.

Hi Onion,

you could also have a listen to Roksan Kandy MK III. It's an integrated Amp.

As for the speakers try Dynaudio, mission or maybe Klipsch. But this depends very much on your taste of music and your local prices. You might end up spending more than AUD 3000.

Greetings from Singapore!

Hello!

The size of my audio room is about ~35 m² and its for hifi only, so there are no other things inside.

I do prefer classical music, so what speakers might be good for this choice of music?`
Dynaudio sounds good, I've once heard some, they were really good, but i can'T remeber which (the only thing i remember is that they were very high with black oversized speakers in the middle).
Im not so well informed about brands, so what would you suggest? Someone told me, i should spend at least the half of the money for the speakers?

amp: i'll try to find some dealers with nad and roksan.
and i will listen to the marantz cd6000!

so long,
greetings from melbourne

No other things inside? No such things like a chair e.g.?

Dynaudio should be good for classical music, maybe B&W (just try them out with your prefered record!!).

Other brands: that's a good question, I'll ask my wife, maybe she got some for you (I don'T know all these brands so well).

Hi onion,
if classical music is an issue Kef speakers may be worth a try.

Hello!

Frank, of course there are some things in the room! But its usage is (or better: will be) strictly limited to hifi!

Wilfried, I've never heard any kef but I'll change that as fast as possible. And i'll try B&W and Dynadio.
But what?
Maybe you could tell me which speaker of the above brands is within my budget (for the speakers: about 1500 AUSD).
I meanwhile got 2 amps and i'll try to listen to them, maybe it will be possible to hear them WITH one of the speakers?

so long.

Hey!

You can't do better than listening to amp and speakers at once!
I'll try to find some b&w and dynaudio speakers within your budget.
My wife suggested b&w (of course) and wharfedale (she told me, her husband uses the diamonfd 8.2 and is very happy with them ).

Now i'm gone drink one or two pints of nice guiness

Hi Scott,

...Maybe you could tell me which speaker of the above brands is within my budget (for the speakers: about 1500 AUSD).

depending on Kef's pricing policy in your country a pair of Q5 might match your budget.
You'll find detailed information on the Q line on the Kef homepage: http://www.kef.com

Kind regards.

Try these, if you don't like them we can give you better suggestions (cause we then know, what kind of stuff you don'T like),

cheers!

Hello,
now i've listened to kef and wharfedale, if I would have to choose between the both of them, I'd take the KEF.

I missed the chance to listen to b&w, dynaudio today, I'll do that on monday or tuesday.
I hope I can hear one or two amps, too.

Hello,
I've now auditioned
Dynaudio Audience 62,72,82 and Contour S 3.4
and
B&W DM 603 S3 and 602 5 S3.

I didn't like the B&W speakers that much, Contour was very good but far above my budget.
And I thought the three audience-speakers weren't as good as the kef.

So it'll be Kef Q5.
CD-player will be some good looking (and fitting to my amps design) player which does not cost the world.

The only thing I now need, is a good amp.
NAD was suggestet, S-300 costs more than 3000 AUSD, so what other NAD amp would you suggest?
Or any other brand, of course.

So long.

Hello,
now I've bought the speakers (KEF Q5) and a cd-player (marantz cd6000le which included a cinch cable).
At the moment i'm using my old amp, it sounds good, but not very good, the old one is about 20 years old and you can cleary "hear" that.

So what amp should I buy?
My budget is now at about 1200 AUSD.

Hi onion,
in my opinion good picks for the Kef Q-Series are:

Arcam
Primare
Micromega

NAD 370 is a good amplifier, you could try the NAD 541i CD player, its good too but for speakers I would give Cadence Arita and Cadence Diva a hearing....they are mind blowingly detailed and precisely time and phase aligned.
