hey guys
in my search for subs i came to realise that the frequency range was one of the more imp specs. i was wondering though that what was the crucial frequency range in movies as well as music. i mean how much of the movie tracks and songs had information below say 40 hz. what constitutes this information, is it just explosions and like in case of movies and bass drums in music. what are the imp freq ranges where a sub shld perform??

A lot of movies have freq below 30 Hz in fact Almost ALL DVDs

What you should look at is the SPL at around 35 Hz at 3dB..IMHO as long as it is above 90dB you should enjoy the movie a lot better. this of course is the low cost option.

as the low freq & the SPL improves, so does the cost..rather exponentially.

You would be amazed at the amount of subterranean information that exists in movies these days. At 40 hz, you are just skimming the surface. And it is not just the explosions or the crashes, even seemingly innocuous scenes make your hair stand up with the low frequency effects they contain. But you need a really good sub, capable of going below 20hz, to make you feel all that.

Be wary of advertising hype, however. Most of the middle of the road manufacturers are happy to fudge figures in the specs they provide.

For music, I prefer listening to a good pair of full range speakers. The sub can take a breather!

hey arj, finding nemo is really a good movie to test just about everything in your Ht setup..dont you think ? colours, great sound...etc etc etc....loved the movie....and doris is quite a laugh. This is another of those movies I can see over and over again and not get tired. The other one was Jungle Book (original). I still make it a point to see the movie every few weeks.

I'm a big fan. Disney/Pixar rules !

You Bet ! I thoroughly agree on the Finding Nemo part.
Bruce is a great character and his voice goes down low enough to test out the Woofer-Sub integration !
Another great one is Toy Story 1 & 2..with some great Bass !
Ice age and Monsters Inc also have their moments

BTW I am a Pixar fan too
