I have a basic question.
Why is that we always discuss all the brands from Europe and not from Ameriaca, especially in the speaker section. No one mentions any speakers from US of A(e.g.Axiom/Boston acoustics/Klipsch).
Is it because they are more sensitive(loud?),or non availability in India?
Thanks.

From what I read , I deduce that :

European speakers are supposed to be mostly on the smoother side of things, maybe a bit midrange dominated.

The canadians I believe pride themselves in making flat response speakers.

Americas probably stress more on dynamics and attack.

Now this is not gospel but just what I have deduced from reading many posts.

Whay dont we discuss more about American speakers ? Well there are a few in the market, Boston, klipsch, Athena, Martin logan, magnepan, JBL etc. Out of them the only one thats made a good impression on me is the magnepan. Havent heard the Athena's yet. You are right, there seem to be more european products in the market. Or maybe I'm wrong.

Manek.

most is available here, but the problem is we talk about what we own. Anything else is - 'not according to my music taste'. A statement almost made as more of an excuse than being candid that we don't know what they are or how they sound. In a nutshell - learn and encourage to learn.

not necessarily. it is very difficult to find some of the stuff to audition in bangalore. i have been looking and hearing equipment for more than 4 years and i still find it difficult to locate some of the brands. some of them are not present in bangalore. so you speak abt those you have heard.
that's all there is to it.

Polk Audio which is one of the well respected American speaker brands is now selling its complete range through ProFX.
The prices of most of the range is pretty good and should attact a lot of entry level audiophiles though must listen to them more before any conclusions can be made.

Happy listening!

Polk used to be very good and regarded brand till around 5 years ago when they decided to go the bose way in terms of marketing.

They still make very good speakers especially in the budget/entry level ie 200-1000 USD range. But that is a very crowded market with so many oplayers that idividual preferences in sound style as well as matching elecronics being the primary dirvers to decision making.

Regarding American speakers, the US market in itself is So huge that most players are concentrating domestic. Green Mountain Audio, meadowlark, Adire audio etc etc very polite and neutral spekers..so called "british sounding"..but still sold only in the US.

With regard to speakers in the Popular range, Another reason could be that American rooms are typically Very large (18X25X10) types and very heavily damped as the walls/floor are plaster of paris & Wood..and also very often heavily carpeted. hence the voicing of speakers is doen differently to european speakers which play in a different home environment..very similiar to Indian.

But in the end it is not just the speakre but the System which produces a sound . hence as long as your speakers is resolving enough, you can match it with different components and reach very close to the sound you want

hey arj,
adire audio is a very well recognised and respected brand in the DIY market. they have a huge following not only in the states but the world over. they have some kits too. their main competetors in this market seems to come from dayton loudspeakers and from Peerless. their shiva and brahma drivers are kinda legendary in the Diy market. exceptional VFM.
