hey All,
have any of you heard a T-Amp or a gainclone amp?
How does ti compare with the mainstream budget amps like the Rotel Ra-01/02,nad 320Bee, c352, PM-7200 and the likes.

I have only built a gainclone amp but have been unable to test it against my NAD 320BEE since the gainclone amp is integrated to the active crossover and is personalised ot my active speakers.
I would be very interesting to know ur views.
Let's keep power ratings out of the discussion for now and concentrate on the signature of the sound from the amps and which amp sounds better.

I saw an upgraded version of T-amp on partsexpress. (Its called super T-amp!)
Its more expensive (around $120) than the previous one but more powerful too.
Appreciate if members can comment on this amp too!..

A friend of mine has picked up one T-Sonic and left it with me. Sadly the input is a stereo mini-jack. I need to pick up a stereo mini-jack to RCA cord or get one made to test the amp. Will be testing it with the klipsch RF3 also. Will keep you guys posted.

Pardon my stupidity, but just what the @#$% is this T-Amp? I gather T here doesn't mean Tube.

Ignorant old foggie here

T amp is called class T but is actually a class D amp.
It is pioneered by Tripath.
TNT audio has a lot of info on this..supposed to be a 'giant killer'.

Ignorant old foggie here :.

a different approact to amplification using ICs

Apparently has very little of the digital nasties due to the high rates of upsampling. apparently an improvement on Class d as it uses signal processing to any any switching distortion of Class D

the T-amp uses a tripath chip which is made by a co called tripath and pioneerd by a Mr Tripathi and hence the name
so indians do have a bigger mark on the audio scene than only speakers

I do have the t amp. for a 29 Euro amp i added a 30 Euro regulated power supply and find it amazing for the price

Of course it loses out to my 40 tomes more expensive sugden, but based on the comparison between the NAD320 i had and the sugden, must admit it comes Very Very close.

Only problem is that for the best sound, its rating is more like 10 W per channel at 4 Ohms and around 7-8 at 8. hence need reasonably sensitive speakers.

my take on it is
1. very clean sounding and excellent imaging
2. strong a clear bass and good midrange
3. i felt a slightly grainy treble
4. not as smooth as the sugden but not sure if it is just phsychoacoustics
I feel the only place it will losed out to the NADs/Rotels of tihs world is in the area of reliability as not sure how long they will last and even if something goes wrong, only way would be to replace it.

Not really,
Its not like we get warranty from the pathetic dealer network we have at present in India.
Apart from some home brewn brands, the rest all popular multi nationals are just $crewing with us.
Forget about high end..its another category where they give u the serviece that u expect wh en ubuy their speaker.
Because that cost is factored into the retail price of the component.

Also u don't find many high end brands manufacturing in China like the mass market buggers. hence less prone to defects.

the way i see it, if your NAD fails then u have nothing else to do but throw out the output devices and hoping that nothin else has gone up ion smoke (very unlikely, if its a serious failure) thn eu have to replace quite a few coomponents.
And did i forget to mention how the service guys $crew you over if u are not at least a bit technically inclined?
"No saar, this is gone, that is gone. i replaced this entire section"
how many times have we not heard this story.

Aha. Thanks for the enlightenment.

It seems not so long ago I could walk down to my local parts shop and ask for an EL84/34/6L6 depending on what output I was looking for the project at hand. Times, as another ole foggy from our era once claimed, are indeed a-changin’

Though I must admit that a tube buffered GC which I built a couple of years ago sounds surprisingly nice.
