so true. I think it has been the past 2 years since MP3 players got so popular that the artificial tizz/Thump seems to be part of all new recordings.. since most music these days are being played in Crappy car systems an headphones, music is being distorted.

I am trying to buy only the old good music these days so only fav albums are available with good recording.

for the old recordings, the original recording is OK..it is the subsequent release which is tamperd with. Problem will be in the next couple of years when even the original recordings might be tainted then we are in trouble..

I'm sorry to say that we audiophiles get the thumbs down from normal 'boom and tizz' folks. It's not funny the way people treat my music tastes at office

Friends say 'Thanks but no thanks' to good jazz artistes like Diana Krall.
My friend walked out on a Bee Gees song today saying it's too slow for her taste.
Another female friend listened to my earphone volume and wondered what I was able to hear. She turns up the volume real high and plays disco numbers.

Face it. We guys are outnumbered and outgunned
No one really wants good music.
My brother firmly believes that his Sony minicompo speakers sound better than audiophile bookshelves.
Another friend called me a 'gadda' for buying locally made speakers rather than Sony.

The only way that we guys can thrive is by getting together and sharing tips on good music. It's just not realistic to expect commercial labels to cater to us.

The one in the Harry Potter movie.

But say Manek, you're an ad man. And you know facts don't matter. Tell a lie a thousand times, and everyone will 'know' that it's the Gospel truth!

Yes thats whats hapenning, sadly...no one especially in India to take them to task and prove 'em wrong so the marketeers(I call 'em racketeers) tend to get away with murder.....!

Dear neutral,
Don’t ever try to impress a female with Jazz /classical and slow numbers. That is the worst mistake you can make. If it is a female friend and you want to introduce her to some good music, pls do so, but if you have any intention of taking her out on a date, hide all your jazz and pull out the hip-hop / boy-band numbers……………they work better ! I actually have dozen cds only for this and I take it out only if any chick comes home……………;)
Audiophiles are a different breed…….there are some music lovers out there who like good sound / guidance and you can identify them easily, save your knowledge for them. Avoid talking audio to the general public……you are wasting your time and credibility.

Thanks Square. You have wisdom
I learnt this truth the hard way. You need to 'pep' females up. I am quite sure my songs (like Norah's lullabies) put them to sleep. Thank goodness I use earphones. And they suffer such stuff only when they are fool enough to listen to my earphones or even worse ask me to give them some music

I should be dishonoured. I give a bad name to audiophiles. Which sane person listens to Norah or Diana

As long as you do not listen to Britney Spears (Are her Initials of B.S. coincidental ? ), you are ok on my books

BTW.. i must confess this.
I do like the work of the Black Eyed Peas

Seriously, I found their mix of Reggae, Rock and even a bit ot hip hop very interesting. Another person who sings well IMHO is Dido .

Christina Aguilara is another good singer..but i shudder at her choice of songs and the image she chooses to convey !

Square since there are no women on our forum let me say that classy women are made, not born
feed them good music and they slowly morph
God help me if a 'sleeper' woman forum member reads this!

Welcome to reality guys! At the cost of being flamed again on this forum, I shall speak the truth again

The reality is that audio costs money and good audio costs insane amounts of money. I remember being roundly abused for suggesting that a local setup (Pulz) could take on a Plinius-Dynaudio combo. But say, did anyone notice that the imported maal costs 5 times as much. (If you could get a good toothpaste for Rs 40, how many of you would spend Rs 200 on a toothpaste that's only 25% better? Very few, I'm sure.)

Yet in audio, we completely ignore the money factor in the passion of our hobby. Forgetting a good local setup, the masses usually listen on utter BS equipment. A whole setup within Rs 10,000. What kind of reproduction quality can one expect?

Arj, please take your Dido tape and play it in an autorickshaw. Tell me how it sounds. How can the masses play good music when the essence of 'brilliance' never gets revealed on the average mediocre system. Only the merest fraction of music systems in India can correctly reproduce the mid-range. What happens to Norah, Dido, Lobo, and Kenny G on a mediocre setup. No vocal clarity and no 'boom and tizz' either. No wonder the masses don't listen to them.

We folks are really privileged. Sometimes we forget it. Let's toast to our good fortune!

Dear Neutral,

Very valid points !

Remember what happened in the car industry in India .....first there was only a limited number of Indian cars with relatively few imported cars. Then the foreign cars set up shop here along with a host of ancillary units. Cars started to get built in India, exported abroad as well as sold locally. Which made the Indian automobile manufacturers take stock and get their act together or ship out.......

The same has already began in the Audio industry ......whether it is DIY kits or foreign companies setting up shop in India...it is all happening slowly yet steadily.......

Print media....What's HiFI versus AV Max....... in this forum alone you can sense the positive vibes for a change.......

Regards,

Junia.

If you take "classy woman" to be same as a "Lady" (as in Ladies & Gentlemen), I have heard people say "Chivalry is dead" and to that I say "Chivalry is dead because Ladies cease to exist".

Just my two paise...

Interesting (intermediate) conversation BTW...
