Audiophile DVD player with volume control

I'm looking out for an excellent DVD player in the Rs 5 to 10 thousand range. It should have excellent analog output sound quality for connection to a stereo amplifier. Another critical requirement is a volume control on the remote since many amps don't have any remote controls

It should also have decoders for Dolby Digital, DTS, and preferably DVD Audio so that I can expand to a home theater later when my budget permits.

Could some knowledgeable person please suggest some brands and model numbers that will meet these requirements. I am based in Bandra, Bombay.

Hi,
In 10k budget you have to either forget SACD and DVD Audio or settle down for a Philips DVD player (no audiophile stuff) with SACD capabilities.

I'm real disappointed. I thought good DVD players were cheap nowadays. And I can't afford 15+ for Harmon Kardons, NAD etc.

Don't be dissappointed.

Check out philps and i'm sure one model has a built in amp,
Dolby........what the heck it's a dvd player + receiver @ 10 or 11k coz their HT package is priced at 16 k with 5.1 speaker package so minus speakers must be 10k...psst pssst I even heard that the packages have been sold for 13,999 Rs.I've heard this system in a friends place and good for a 15k package. Go to the nearest shop and find out.

Hey Neutral,
For 15k you will get good entry level High-end DVD players from Onkyo, Denon and Pioneer but dont expect SACD and DVD-Audio from them. Those Universal players with all these high-end capabilities like DVD-Audio etc starts at 20K. But are you that particular for a Universal player ? If yes then you have to check out Philips and Sony first and also check out Pioneer (the best among the entry level brands).

Thanks for the suggestions. I am planning on taking a stereo amp and speakers for around 30,000. I want to use the analog outputs of the DVD player to feed the amp's inputs. Most cheap amps don't have volume control on their remote. So what I need is excellent DACs to give me good sound output from the analog outs and of course the volume control on the remote for convenience.

As I said, you will get all these in under 15k but without SACD and DVD-Audio stuff. Check out Onkyo, Denon, Pioneer or even HK for once.

Abhi is right Pioneer, denon and Onkyo palyers come with lots of features at a good price
