Helooo

A friend would like to setup a central music source for the house and would like the various rooms to be covered. The brief is that there should be a small console which will switch on and off music on demand for that room.

which companies do this in india ? My thought was harmon, bose.

Would the feed into each room be done with cat5 cable ?

Need some help.

Manek, the world is going wireless. Forget cables, they are TOO Cumbersome to retrofit, of even fit when the interiors are being done. A wired a set up is FAR too in-flexible in a living environment. ( eg: Shifting the table location where the CAT-5 is terminated).

I would STRONGLY recommend the SONUS wifi based music server. It is SUPERB for this application, and the ipod like (identical) click wheel and screen is instinctive to use.

A system consits of the central server + 1 hand held remote + 1 room unit ( wifi receiver + stereo amp ).

You can separetely buy additional Room Units ( with or without a built in Power Amp ) & Remotes, as & when you like.

The remote can be moved from room to room,. to control any room. Each Remote has a Full Ipod screen & interface.

The SONUS is superb anything else for a multi room setup is a compromise...

P.S: I dont think the SONUS is sold officially in India

Err all you need is a dumb box with lots of storage that is connected to your router using ethernet. Why spend a lot on it? Any Windows/Linux machine should do the job. This one doesn't even need any high end audio hardware.

I use my 5 year old junk hardware which would have been in my attic otherwise. As a front end you can use other computers with decent audio hardware or a Squeezebox.

The Sonos is an excellent suggestion..can add on as many modules as required. Manek een i would highly recommend it instead of the bose as wiring can be a real pain unless there is an option of internal wirings

ROC..not everyone likes dumb boxes spread across...and that does not really give a console as the Sonos does. also too much of "Techie" work involved for those who are not into it
