Anyone used any of these? They allow you to keep your media collection on a PC and stream it to them. How would they sound when connected to an external DAC via optical/coax assuming a good high quality DAC. I'm thinking of getting one of these to have my media accessible in other rooms. Any pointers would be real helpful :).

Squeezebox seems to be the most popular. Try it out and post a review here

Awesome... easily the best specs amongst all the devices I've seen till now... a bit pricey but looks like a fantastic buy. 41$ shipping to india :P. Shud i pull the trigger?

i have a apple airport express..connected to a wadia DAC

Arj what sort of a connector do you need for getting optical out off that airport express connector? It seems to have something very similar to a normal minijack. Does apple provide a connector? The airport express is a lot cheaper than the squeezebox but doesn't support half the well known losless compressed formats :(.

yeah..it supports only iTunes hence apple lossless. OR MP3/AAC

the minijack is a mini Tos..so any standard Mini tos to TOS cable is enough.. since i have a Monarchy DIP i just use it to connect to that and then use a AES/EBU digital cable to the DAC.

Another question :D. How much difference does the DIP make? Is it something really audible?

welll.. Moot question..

Sometimes I think it does and sometimes I think I am imagining it. but since i bought it used for less than the price of a good IC, feel it is worth it

But with the DVDp as a transport, the difference with and without seems more obvious.

I was thinking the same... it'd probably have a much greater impact on high jitter sources than potentially jitterfree sources like the airport express.
