A wireless "High-End"-Headphone does not exist. You should go for a wired one (because of the better sound quality).

What is your budget? I think Junia posted a list of distributers recently. You may want to look up earlier postings.

Dont scoff at the philips range of headphone

HP800,HP840,HP890,HP1000

Their price might be cheap but not their performance and can be easily driven out of most headphone output because of good sensitivity.Try them out you might like them.

Wow. I got some decent chinese speakers for Rs. 200 last week. I also got the SBC HP840 two days back for Rs. 450 on sale. Somehow I like the performance and comfort of the chinese speakers better.

Not that the performance of the Philips SBC HP840 was poor but the local chinese stuff was better. The bass on Philips is very powerful. Otherwise the overall sound quality is mediocre at least compared to by HT setup. I am not sure how the performance of the HP840 compares to the Rs. 1100 headphones available at PlanetM.

Pramod, I would like to aplogice for the slightly misleading post. I picked the Philips from clearence section of Walmart for $10.

I picked up the Chinese make generics also at Walmart for $5. The build quality of Philips is far superior but I like the sound from the Chinese headset better. Hence the comments.

Any idea how the Philips compare to Grado SR-60 or entry level Sennheiser or even Sony.

I live in uk at present so I havent tried other headphones Grado are very expensive here just the double of usa retailing price.I wouldnt say the above mentioned philips headphones are the very best in sound reproduction they are good value for money since I use my headphone(HP800) with an old sony pcdp player I kinda like this sound it is very laid back(which i prefer)
HP890 and HP1000 are supposed to be very good I have just read about these but I did listen to HP890 and found them to be a bit bright for my taste.
HP1000 which is the topline model from philips is very good.
people have praised HP890 and HP1000(Head-fi in fact)and have compared them to senn HD595 and HD600 but as far as I am concerned I would never invest that amount of money on a headphone but would rather invest it on a good stereo system.

My experience may be biased by my listening experience on my home system. The bass in the Philips speaker system is excellent. The response in mid and higher frequencies is not exactly what I have got used to. So the comparison may not be fare.

One thing I can tell you is that the Philips HD840 is a steal at $10. The other models mentioned are in the range of $40 to $70. I think this is the same range as Philips.

For surround sound, things directly in front of me seem to come from the back of my head on both my head sets. The left and right channels gives the feeling that it is coming from behind not in front of me. The stereo effect is more realistic with external speakers. Not sure if others have the same experience.
