Dear Arj,

The composer is a very fine entry level interconnect.
The company infact emphasizes that all of its cables & interconnects are value for money and can be compared with products of other brands at a higher price.
The owner started Ecosse a decade ago only because he believed the cables available then were exhorbitant for the price they were offered at.
No doubt it is now a commercial venture for him, but the products are definitely superior and IMO outperform cables of other brands at similar prices.
For a company that almost doesnt ever advertise (excpet at times a small advt), to win several awards from various magazines only goes to prove how good their products are.

P.S. : one of the tag lines Ecosse uses is "Its all about the music"

The (sad for consumers ) fact is that even today, typically, Cable Manufacturers offer 400% margins to their dealers..

US $ 20 from Manufacturer

US $ 100 to customer (MRP)

ANY ( dare I say Ecosse too ? ) cable company that wants distribution has ( ? ) to pay this margin ?

Dear Amp_Nut,

I dont wish to start a debate here, but trust me (if you would) i do not know of any cable manufacturer that offers 400% margin. Besides my ignorance on other cable manufacturers offerings, Ecosse most definitely doesnt offer 400% margin.
Also as mentioned earlier, it is ofcourse a business at the end of the day but with an aim to provide a product better and cheaper than its rivals, thats Ecosse's moto.

Stereophile Dec 2006 Issue: review of the TARA Labs' The Zero interconnect.... priced at a mere US $ $14,900.

Back on the ground
And now let's gently touch ground: A 1m pair of Zero interconnects will set you back $14,900. I am sorry.

Here's the good news: A 2m pair of Zeros also costs $14,900. So does a 3m pair. The length required to go from my preamp to my amps costs a not-so-cool $17,000.

Why so expensive? Matthew Bond claims that each mil-spec RCA plug costs him $473.50. Times four equals $1894. That's his cost just for the plugs for a pair of Zero cables. With the average high-end audio retail markup being fivefold, you're talking close to $10,000 just for the plugs. On learning the plugs' cost, and after inspecting a nonworking sample Bond had left with me, some friends with manufacturing experience outside of audio said they were impressed by the design and construction, but that perhaps someone other than Bond should be in charge of parts procurement.

When I mentioned this to Bond, he laughed. "In the small quantities I order from this mil-spec machine shop, which supplies parts for projects so secret they don't actually know what they're building, that's the best I can do." Funnily enough, the actual wire is probably among the Zero's least expensive components—though nonetheless of extreme importance, Bond insists.

Bold emphasis is mine not Stereophiles....

Dear Amp_Nut,

Thanks for the info, maybe i should get in touch with Tara Labs to market their products
Well on a serious note, i chose to be ignorant about other cable brands offerings. I choose to know everything there is to know about Ecosse cables as i distribute them.
Once again, it is a business at the end of the day. The idea is to provide to product that can compete with its rivals and outperform them at that price.
I dont wish to comment on Tara Labs margins also i agree with you that cable manufacturers offer 400% margin and maybe even more. But i wont agree that every cable manufacturer to have distribution HAS to offer 400% margin.

No hard feelings pal.

However, it seems to me that Hi Fi salesmen exhibit the GREATEST Zeal in selling Audio Cables ( after the Hi Fi Hardware has been sold )

Makes me suspect that Cables offer more 'cream' than any other Hi Fi Hardware..

Not at all sir,

Not at all.

Maybe its the "cream" or the fact that one will make the most of their gear only if they opt for good quality cables. Maybe its both.

Cheers

Since the discusion has shifted to cables let me take advantage and ask a simple question. Won't I obtain the same performance by using just good generic cable from Chinese manufacturers (Rs. 80/ metre)? Cable is after all the least significant of all the audio components. Belken seems to have good connectors and adaptors.

ALL Cables have their own sound. ( IMHO)

If the chinese product or whatever, proves synergetic with your system, go for it.

I think a good Finolex cable might just be a better deal than the chinese one.
