Hi SNV,

That IS great news, and read in in the current issue of Hi Fi Choice, just a day after I returned from Pune....

Do you have a dealer / outlet in Mumbai where we can hear the stuff ?

I was VERY impressed with the Top-Of-The-Line Cyrus CD player with external Power Supply.

Actually, I thought the small package was a rip off, until I heard it ! VERY Good...

Wish You All The Best

Hello Amp_Nut,

Thankyou for your wishes.
Infact both the cd players have also won the WhatHifi awards.
The entry level cd6s is the product of the year and the flagship 8x is the best cd player in its class.
With the external power supply there is great improvement in the sound.
The external power supply uses a 330va transformer.
They also have a transport and dac option.
Soon i would be appointing dealers, definitely one in bombay as well.
You mentioned you heard the cd player, may i ask where did you hear this?

Thanks & Regards

I heard it at a friend's place, who was offered it second hand...

Just my 2 cents.... wish Cyrus had a different look to their top of the line model.... Both seem identical looking, hence ( to me ) the perceived value of their high end model ( over Rs 1.3L for the CD player Without the external Power Supply ... anm I correct ? ) just did not get me excited.... untill I heard it !

Dear Amp_Nut,

The entire range of Cyrus is the shoe box size. I know it appeals to some, to others it doesnt. The whole chassis is die cast as a single piece from non-magnetic alloy, this case also works as a heat sink.
The entire line looks similar, but every model is so very different from the inside.
The high end model CD8x is priced at rs 100k. One could add the power supply at rs 40k.
The products ofcourse are simply unbelievable for their size.

Sir, "HIFI" is like an ocean and i welcome everyone's 2 cents (and more) to atleast fill my bucket.

Hi Kamal,

I am in talks with someone in Delhi. Lets hope they materialize soon.
Although honestly i dont know of anyone who would invest in the
entire range of Cyrus products. One will have to drop in to Pune for a demo of the hi-end models.
Congrats doc on owning a fine piece of equipment.
It simply is a great cd player at that price.

Dear Jay !

Thanks ! And sorry I could not wait to come down to Pune to hear & buy Cyrus.

I went for a family holiday to Dubai over the new year. I bought the following from Dubai Audio Center (dubaiaudio.com):

1. Cyrus CD 6s - CD Player
2. Cyrus Pre VS2 - pre amp
3. Cyrus Power 6 - power amp
4. Transparent TL 200 interconnects

It was love at first sight - and I couldn't wait to get married (for the n'th time).

I auditioned some really good hifi gear. Let me rank them in order of increasing sonic performance (in my perception):

1. Arcam CDP, Preamp & Power-amp hooked to Linn Linka speakers
2. Cyrus CDP, Pre & Power (the combo that I bought) hooked to Linn Linka
3. Naim CDP & Int. Amp hooked to Naim Speakers
4. Cyrus CDP, Jadis Tube Pre & Jadis tube monoblocks hooked to Martin Logans

The last combo had amazing degree of realism and layering. Adil (the owner of the store) quipped, "we have decided your next upgrade also". The store deals in some real good stuff, has 5 acoustically treated listening rooms and the owner is a true audiophile "grade" dealer.

I have setup my equipment (hooked to KEF Coda 90 - which is now the weakest link) and am thoroughly enjoying it - even though the break in period of 3 weeks (as recommended by Cyrus) is not yet over.

I will post a detailed review later. But briefly speaking - even my wife commented that this system is significantly better than my previous setup - and that should mean a lot (at least my neck is saved).

Kamal & other Delhi audiophiles are most welcome to audition (Jay I know I have to compensate you in some way - and by the way my speaker upgrade is due).

I would welcome suggestion for speakers for my new setup.

Hello Doc,

Congrats and no need to apologise. Hifi gear is like porn to us, extremely difficult to resist. You see it, you want it.
DAC carries some really good brands. Nice guy too. You have bought one of the finest products, no doubt.
The Pre-Power is simply, to me atleast, the best at that price. Nothing to outperform it.
Give the Cyrus products 3-4 weeks and only then will you hear the Cyrus sound.
Dubai dealers do enormous business, atleast when compared to the Indian counterparts.
As much i want to have 5 demo rooms, its just not viable. That kind of market doesn't exist here in India.
Im only hoping the hifi segment grows to that extent in the next couple of years.
Anyways, will mail you some options on the speakers. Doc, there is absolutely no need for you to compensate me for anything.
Enjoy your hardware, and most importantly your music.
Remember in the end, its all about the music. (now where have i heard this)

Cheers

Dear Jay,

Sadly, even Dubai is not a great HiFi market. I had 3 addresses with me - one of them has packed up and the other one I could not trace. So practically DAC is the only hifi dealer. There, too, it's more of HT market for the wealthy segment and boom-boxes / iPods for the other majority.

And of course in India finance is always a constraint for the both the consumer & the seller - so even one good listening room is enough.

Let me know what speakers you recomend for Cyrus setup.

Cyrus is one of those truly "öld" british brands.. the sound of which is not something common now..but i guess still yearned after. the old cyrus 1 and 2 still do well in the 2nd had market.

I think in spite of being taken up by IAG, the chinese giant, they have still managed to retain the flavour which made it good.

THe Cyrus Rack is also something really good looking BTW.. !

So Dr, now you will have to upgrade your speaker to do any sort of justice to your setup :))

Dear Arj,

Cyrus is a 25 year old brand. Infact, Cyrus and Mission were jointly owned for quite some time.
Recently Mission was bought by IAG and is now manufactured in China.
Cyrus had seperated from MIssion long before IAG bought MIssion. Cyrus is a privately owned company and has nothing to do with IAG which now owns Mission, Wharfedale, Quad, Audiolab.
Cyrus products are still hand made in England and yes the the old Cyrus models 1 & 2 are still sought after and still are serviced and upgraded to the newer version by Cyrus.

Unfortunately the Cyrus Hark Rack is not available anymore but they do have the Tri Arbour and X Arbour racks.

What about Missions? Weren't the Cyrus amps originally "made for" Mission speakers?
SNV
Stammgast
#30 erstellt: 12. Jan 2007, 16:59
Dear Doc,

Honestly, Mission doesn't have the appropriate speaker in that price bracket to go with the Cyrus combo.
There was a time when Cyrus electronics were tweaked to match the Mission range, not anymore. Its plain neutral.
I do deal in Dali and can source the Proac. I am in talks with Cadence to market their speakers.
The non es range of Cadence (Arita & Ds) goes well with the Cyrus electronics.
I know of someone in UK who uses the Cyrus cd player & integrated amp with the Arita and is simply in love with his system. This guy actually spends 3-4 hours with his system every single day.
I am recommending speakers which i feel will compliment the Cyrus electronics.
All 3 suggestions have a different signature altogether. Not one sounds like the other.
But i feel these are one of the finest speakers in their class. Opt for the one that pleases you.

Cheers

Sanjay, since you've refused to entertain advice re the Stiltechs,my next attempt is for Cadence but a pair with the ES panels;afterall, we only live once.
Somewhere on the Forum I read ( prob Manek, but I'm not too sure) that you can pick up bargains on preowned speakers which Cadence refurbishes & sells for half the list price for new ones.
Care to explore that option?

I guess the biggest VFM in the Indian market is Cadence.

I would also suggest the B&W 80X series.. heard a setup on electrocompaniet monobocs and was blown away/amazed...

Another speaker you can try out is the JMlab cobalt or the electra series..no idea of the cost here though.. I would very heavily lean towards it, the budget being ok

Incidentally I did get an opportunity to hear the JM Lab cobalt, Proac Studio 140, Linn Ninka, Acoustic Portrait MS-301 and Dynaudio Audience 52SE all of them side-by-side in the same room with the same electronics (Bryston). Did a comparision (thanks to Prithvi) . At 1.4 Lacs, the JM Labs just couldnt justify the price to all of us present in that room (except Prithvi, who didnt comment because he wanted our opinions). They sounded good but not for the price. Their highs were especially good and stood out. But overall a decent speaker at an unreasonable price IMO.

from the little I heardd it still has a slightly flabby bass...the tablette sounds better.

For around the same price as a Proac Studio 140 you can get a Proac response one sc loudspeaker + stands. This may in fact be a better option if your listening room is not too large. Links to 2 reviews here-

Else the Cadence Avitas should be a good bet.You might also want to check out the Totem Arros.
