BTW had a very very surprising result today. at a suggestion of a friend tried the crossover at 25Hz. getting the best results I have so far !!! no boom, clear Midrange and a lot of low level information which was missing. If I switch the sub off i feel like stopping the music !
I must be 75% there.

REL Recommends Corner placement of their Subs, while conventional wisdow indicates that full range speakers be placed AWAY from room corners.

Thoughts anyone ?

AN, from what I have figured, REL is different because it does not have a conventional low pass Crossover. The setting you make is for the peak set of values and upper frequecies decay naturally with the Box simulating a 2nd order crossover.
Thats the reason a REL is supposed to Augment the speaker. hence the REL is to be set such that the response decay of the lower end of the speaker and the upper end of the Sub add up and Lock in to simulate some sort of an even response....and hence setting and placement being important for the right lock in

Since the 3 wall give a natural 9DB boost, it will go down lower near the walls and the same decay experienced at a lower amplifier volume.

BTW The above is based on what I have eperienced and what I have read up on REL in forums and discussions and any inputs to this will only be continuing education to me

1 wall = 3 dB
2 walls = 6 dB
3 walls = 9 dB

This is when a speaker [sub woofer] is placed close to walls.

The advantage of corner placement is that the sub can play a higher spl with lower amplifier need.
The F3 of the sub does not change...

How do you achieve 3 walls in a corner ? A corner has only two walls right ?

Floor :). as Bhagwan said 3db of each near surface..2 walls and the floor..OR cieling depending where you place it

correct;

free standing = floor = 1 wall = 3 db
This hold true for all speakers too.
Hence Tannoy corner horns are ment to be placed right up against a wall [3 of them]
The bass gets re-enforced by 10 ++ db's
Westminster Royal etc.

same about Klipsch-Horns. sounds thin and bright away form the walls. I beleive Audio note speakers also sound better near the walls.

100 % correct !

However, I have never heard an audio note speaker.
Amps yes, speakers never..

an important update in the journey of my subs. one of my subs developed multiple problems and in the end the driver and the amp module had to be replaced...after over 3 months finally have both subs working.

So its back to square 1 in terms of dialling in of the subs now

Finally

I simply have to put in a word of my appreciation for Jay (SNV) in this whole process, despite the fact that I neither had not bought the sub from him and nor has this been under warranty, Still the amount of cooperation and help I have received from him is nothing short of remarkable in terms of
-coordination with REL for 2 driver shipments (2 failures ! all due to an faulty amp module)
-Coordination with REL in identification of the problem
-I got a replacement amp module for almost free !!!!

clearly one of the best cases of dealer support i have ever received !!. Jay..may your tribe increase.with this kind of support REL and all your other brands can only do well !!

Arj, its Always Lovely to read actual reports of good service offered here in India, despite the obvious obstacles in getting spares etc.

Its even more laudable when that service is rendered for a product not bought from that dealer.

CONGRATS ! Jay (SNV)

To that, I would like to add my personal experience too. Jay kindly had loaned me for a HOME AUDITION the dCS Puccini CD Player + the 2 Box Cyrus CD Transport + DAC and CHORD interconnects. There was no pressure to quickly return the products or to buy.

I truely appreciated that too, Jay. Thank You.
