Vienna phil....lovely orchestra...especially under the baton of carlos klieber. To me that would be the main attraction, good bad or average concert hall.

Hi,
I am having sleepless nights already. Its soo stressful to manage tickets when such concerts get announced. The problem is that all and sundry who have essentially no interest in the music want to be "seen" there and thus the music lover struggles to find a seat.

Lang Lang (pronunced as "Lung Lung" had a season with Zubin Mehta and the Israel Philharmonic last year. Hope to be there.

not really bhagwan....to me the vienna phil holds far more interest than lang lang.

lang lang will thrill his audiences visually....with his theatrics, quite like the meastro accompanying him(Mr. Mehta).

hopefully the music should be as satisfying or more than the visual treat both Lang and Mehta would put up. With the vienna phil i would be hoping for a lot. Zubin Mehta has had a long association with the orchestra so cross your fingers.

Manek.

Continuing....

When Zubin had announced his visit with the Isreal Philharmonic with an accompaning pianist, I had told Bhagwan that it may be Lang Lang as he had just played with/under him. However, it was not lang Lang but Daniel Barenboim.

"The London Symphony Orchestra will have Lang Lang under their roof for an entire week in April to engage in a range of activities to show more sides of the remarkable keyboard virtuoso. The internationally-renowened musician, perhaps the most recognized of any classical artist, is certain to boost sales in any symphony's season brochure."

"But no one in classical music has had a bigger year than the 26 year-old Chinese pianist Lang Lang. Let's run down the list: In February, Lang Lang played live at the Grammy Awards, a duet with Herbie Hancock. He released his autobiography...wait, make that his SECOND autobiography in eight languages. (This in the year he turned 26.) In June, he played in front of a Vienna palace with the Vienna Philharmonic, a concert celebrating the end of the 2008 European Soccer Championships. He played a concert in Central Park with the New York Philharmonic, for an audience of about 60,000. (He later tried to sell the red Steinway from that concert on eBay to raise money for earthquake relief in China. There were no bids, but Lang Lang raised $3 million for Red Cross earthquake relief by playing benefit concerts). He played for a live global audience of...what, maybe four billion?...during the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games. ("It's kind of like you're playing in the universe," said Lang Lang.)
He created a foundation to support young musicians, with the goal of doling out $5 million dollars a year.
And to top it off, Lang Lang made People Magazine's list of the sexiest men alive, alongside Hugh Jackman, Daniel Craig, Zac Efron, and Michael Phelps."

If you like the orchestra so much, you should hear karl bohm's recordings with the orchestra. Had two of the lp recordings, beethovens eroica and the choral(transcribed to tape from lp) but....can't find cd's. His beethoven recordings with vienna phil are quite well regarded.
