The London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) is one of the best-known orchestras in the world. The orchestra boasts over 100 players and gives around 90 concerts a year at the Barbican, London. The LSO is internationally recognised for its innovative approach to music-making and programme planning. Like most ensembles, the orchestra has a great ability to vary its sound, producing very different tone colours.

President of the LSO and former Music Director of the Royal Opera, Sir Colin Davis is amongst the world's most distinguished conductors. A champion of the works of Mozart, Berlioz, Sibelius and Tippett, Sir Colin has brought many previously neglected works back into the repertoire, while his substantial discography includes many recordings that are considered benchmarks against which few others can compete.

Conductor Kristjan Järvi is renowned as one of the best communicators on the international stage. The New York Times has hailed him as “a kinetic force on the podium, like Leonard Berstein reborn.” Järvi is a highly sought-after Guest Conductor, appearing regularly with the LSO, Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, Berlin Radio Symphony, Orchestre National de France, and Royal Scottish National Orchestra

Programme:

9th April
Conductor: Kristjan Järvi
Bernstein: Symphonic Dances from West Side Story
Stravinsky: Firebird Suite (1919)
Rachmaninoff: Symphonic Dances

10th April
Conductor: Sir Colin Davis
Elgar: Enigma Variations
Berlioz: Symphonie Fantastique

Got my tics - looking forward to the concerts - should be a great weekend...

What a performance !!

20 / 10 !!

Brilliant !!

For the 1st time in my life - I ever experianced what 'scale' is all about & how far I am in my quest for audio nirvana. West Side Story was the opening piece - grande scale;; excellent.
What super descipline.....Every member of the LSO player like a professional - specially the 'horn' section..

cheers again..

I lookd forward to this evening.

p.s. I have a good seat - D20;
Changed to an 'even better' seat - H24 [much better] !!

I was at the Melbourne Station (Flinders street) today and heard a young guy aroun 20 years playing the Violin. was so transfixed that i sat there in front of him for a good 1 hour.

What Talent. and hearing a violin unamplified in the hand of one so talented has to one of my best experience till date.

Sorry to Hijack your thread Bhagwan but did not want to create a new one for this.

Sir,

No 'hijack'

I exactly understand what you are talking about.
Saturday I heard a 'new & different' LSO.
Under the Baton of Sir Colin Davis, they played like a different orchestra.
It was a piece of music, I had not heard, Elgar Enigma Variations, it was played so well.

One of the 'best' concerts I ever had the pleasure of listening to @ NCPA....

I loved it..

That is exactly why classical or any unamplified renditions are so magical and leave our systems wanting in just about every department.

Btw I had a similar experience with a pianist at the taj lobby 6 to 7 years ago.

Wifey and I went to browse through nalanda(the bookshop) at taj mumbai.
The moment we entered the lobby soft notes of the piano grabbed us both and lo and behold, an elderly gentleman was playing all of my fav sinatra tunes !

Both of us were so drawn to the music and the playing style we just plonked in front of the piano and listened to song after song. He played all our requests and was defintely playing for us.
After an hour and more our paradise was shattered by a phone call and drat ! We had to go home !
We thanked and complimented the artist, yes an artist he surely was.

All he said was " you are welcome, its a pity that no one appreciates talent anymore".

We really felt bad for this man, he did have magic in his fingers. Next week we went again to listen to him but alas he wasn't there. We asked around but they just said that they hadn't seen him for a few days. To this day every time I enter that hotel my eyes turn in the direction of where that man sat and played.

Its probably one of the most moving experiences.

Yes, I know these things can captivate you.

Yes, A live piano is magical.

Unfortunately I had the opposite experience ... sound quality wise, at the Pheonix mall, a year or so ago.

The piano sounded BAD and I could not understand why.... went close up and saw a microphone place near the strings, with a small amplifier + speaker box to reinforce the sound.

Ampnut, yes they have a small piano. The last time I heard that piano, there was a young guy playing it but mostly bolllywood tunes.
Don't quite remember how it sounded though.

The piano man is at landsend ? I hope its the same guy. Hmmm I am going to have to go there and find out !
Thanks for the lead.
