Hi All,

What is the take on the SACD market in India? I do not see much postings here. What players do you generally use for SACD? I currently have the Marantz SA8260 which I find very good for RBCD and SACD.

What is the average price of SACD in India? Are there any Hindi/Classical titles available (besides Water Lily Acoustics)?

I am not much aware of the Indian audio scene, since I left for US in Jan 2002. But I am thrilled about coming back and having so many options available that were not available 5 years back!!

Yeah...very few SACDs are available but the cost is almost same as Redbook ones. Most the SACDs available here are hybrid CDs (having an ACD layer)...and I have seen only 1 DVD-A disk till now in store. So SACD & DVD-A scene is not very exciting...

Thanks for the info guys. The cost is impressive...but availability is depressing.

I hope RPG and other labels in India, who press LPs can remaster the classicals/carnatics/old Hindi movies/ etc on SACD. About 12-15 years ago I heard the "Ai Malik Tere Bunde Hum" on a LP at a gentleman's place...and still remember how it sounded. There was an "emotion" in that music, which I never got on cassette or CD or MP3. The low level details and presence was awesome, for such an old recording. But I believe, if the songs like these are remastered on SACD (using DSD) then they can come very close to vinyl.

Hybrid is the way to go, as everyone can play them in the CD players.

Hi !

There are no SACD releases in India for Indian Music.

We do get a bit of Classical & New Age Music on SACD; Also some Jazz is there.

The prices range from Rs. 400/- to Rs. 1200/- per SACD.

Most of the discs available are Hybrids.
These are very 'wierdly mastered' to say the least. They make the cd layer sound very very poor on regular CD Players.

None the less, for any person that supports the SACD format, India is a very very good place to buy the music from. @ 8 $'s a SACD you cannot fo wrong.

I currently have 76 SACD's but no player !! Sad but true.

Hi Bhagwan, very good info. Thank you very much. Can you please let me know what hindi/classical SACDs you have? I will be interested in purchasing them from the net.

And you have 76 SACDs and not a SACD player!!!! Man..that's a pity. I will suggest a good SACD/CD player rather than a UDP. It's like you are having ore of gold and not real gold. Get the polishing machine (SACD player) and polish the ore to get gold (SACD sound)

Hello ! Thanks for the suggestion; I will surely consider the purchase of a SACD Player.

With regards to the Hindi / Classical SACD's;
I do not have any. I am not aware of any releases either.
There are only some that are available through Kavi [Waterlilly Acoustics].

Actually I do not believe in the SACD Platform. I do not find it better than CD. I Have auditioned and listened to many SACD Players - Accuphase 100 & 101, Accuphase 85, Linderman, Teac Esoteric, Classe Omega, etc. However, I do not find them to be doing anything better than what the CD Players can do. We could discuss this at length as 'PM's' if you want more details.

Thanks !
