Bought my first tubes.now need an amp to put them in

Hi guys,

I just bought a few tubes yesterday.
6 12SN7GT
6(total) 6CG7/6FQ7

All are used.

The guy had a tube tester..and I checked them all individually.

Total paid was 18$ with each being 1.5$.

Now I just need to get my first ever tube headphone amplifier going. Waiting for the boards to arrive.

Will keep you guys posted on this...This is not a kit that you can buy online...just a prototype that is being evolved into the Stacker 2 which would be sold commercially. The difference being that the commercial one would use a tube rectifier power supply section while mine would be solid state based power supply.

Am very excited.

cool! had an amp with the 6SN7GT guessing the 12SN7s will have a similar sound. nice tubes! good project. all the best with it.

Good call on the 12SN7GT. Good tubes for lesser price. You may like to design your filament supply such that you have an option of using 6SN7 also.

I would very much appreciate any and all knowledge that you can shed on tubes as I am as green as they can get when it comes to them.

I am told the design of this particular amp is oriented towards tube rolling, where in a lot of different tubes can be used. I just need to decide if I should go with tht enoval 6SN7s or the Octals 12SN7GTs..

Tubes are relatively simple things. All you need to know Ohms law to become a tube guru

If tube rolling is a prime critaria (and it should be), then you are better off using 6SN7 as you get more options. In any case try and have dual filament winding for greater flexibility.

Both the tubes are octals.
