Thanks to Mr.Behram .with the ideas provided by him,i made a pair of heavy stands for my MA B2s,using cudappa stone.Only the design is different from his[behram]

The finish cannot be called furniture grade, but will serve the purpose during my limited period of stay in this place.
They are too heavy to move around, each weighing nearly 25Kgs may be more.. .they are so sturdy, its like a stand carved out of rock.i had some difficulty in bringing the peices together and assembling it my room.backache for 2 days .height is around 28 inches.its impossible to move them around.with better materials its possible to have a furniture grade finish[marble].total cost was around 750 Rs

will post the pics soon..

Hi !

Great work Neono.

Another "jugaad" idea is to use inverted heavy concrete plant pots.

Vintage furniture is made of real wood and very heavy. Would speakers sound good enough if we use two vintage tables instead of regular stands?

I dont think that will be a good idea.even though heavy, the large flat surface of a table may act like a vibrating cone or diaphragm.

antique wood, if in good condition is usually denser and heavier and more stable

if the joints dont creak, and the two pieces are identical in height/shape they should be excellent !

Congratulations Neono ! Most important how do the speakers sound when placed on these stands ?

Do post a snap for reference. If you like it to look furniture grade, cut 1 inch wide veneer strips and stick it on the edge of the cuddapas to give it a wooden feeling all round it. However do not stick any veneer on the surface you place the speakers on, as that would affect the tightness of sound.

Behram.

The major drawback that I can see is edge refraction as the surface area of the table will exceed that of the speaker (unlike that of a regular speaker stand). The advantage is that antique wood is real wood and so heavy and inherently anti-resonant. If the table can be mass-loaded with magazines, it would damp it further. Of course, two identical tables are a pre-requisite.

Offcourse there is a lot of improvement in the sound.the bass became tight, overall the sound was more refined, the stereo seperation improved,imaging..I compared with my friends speakers, same as mine[b2]but without stands.im getting new ideas now ,may be i'll make anotherone for my friend, also for for home use ill make one ,with better finish and am planning to use marble and cudappa. for 600Rs[stone alone] u get 50 kg of stand .i'll post the pictures soon

just a question, if you hit the stone lightly does it ring ?

i dont think so.. .the pillar in 3inch thick, made by combining three 1 inch thick slabs each 24inch*9inch.[not related to ringing]i used three small, square rubber peices [cycle tube] under each speaker as dampening.

Hi Neono,

Your design, is it roughly the same as a kitchen platform? Are you using cement as the joining material for the 3 slabs?

No ,basically its a pillar and 2 slabs as base and platform.the pillar being made by cobining 3 slabs.i used a special compound, which they call 'metal paste'.green in colour.once stuck together however heavy, the slabs dont move.ill post the pics[waiting for a digicam.mine is a vga mobile camera.not good].

Wow, Neono, a great DIY!
BTW, is the base slab wide enough to guarantee stability?
How are the speakers mounted onto the top slab- just placed there or are they "fixed" to the slab?
What colour are the stands-cant really make out from the pix

Kamal

Even I am looking at some decent stands at an economical price...Now this DIY is so inspiring. Congrats neono...is there a change in sound you could notice ?
BTW, I would suggest you remove the TV from the center, if you want proper imaging...a TV in between totally destroys the image...

The base plate is wide enough to be stable. Its Super stable.wont move even half a millimeter.Made of stone. Each weighs 30kg+.I weighed it.The smaller version[18 inch] that i made for my friend weighs 25kg each stand. The colour is black.just general purpose black paint.thats why the glossy look.
Total cost would be around 600Rs for both stands.
when i shift back to home ,i want to try different materials,granite/marble.
Regarding sound.The difference was huge....
I did a comparison with my friends speaker[Same MA B2].His sounded more like a MiniCompo.. .
I will post the measurements and plan,if u need it.

I placed each speaker on 3 small, square pieces of tyre tube. This will hold the speakers well. They act like ,kind of sticky glue, also dampens.the speakers wont move even if you give a gentle nudge..its sticky..

Not much of space here.anyway the TV is kept a little, backwards.

Mmm, black/dark green marble/granite would look really awesome!
You could even create racks out of the stone-rock solid, vibration proof & great looks, to boot.
