So been wanting to try some coupling caps in my tube amp..ordered a pair each of these. Quite spendy i must say..I am a cheap bastard when it comes to components..but I have arrived at a point that I know I will have this amp around for a long time. So I am trying to improve whatever I can incrementally..Even going by coupling cap standards a pair each of these came out to well over 120$. They better sound good compared to the Obbliggatto gold or copper Polypros that i am using right now..which btw are excellent budget caps.

What is your favorite capacitor ???

These are probably sourced from Jensen...the construction is very similar.

Not really Siva..Apparently, they are manufactured in Uk by amp ohm themselves and I have had a few folk tell me that they found the ampohm to be much better than the Jensens..

Ampohm nearly closed up shop earlier this year, but apparently they got rescued or something and are back in business.

I bought mine from audiocap.co.uk

Have you had any experience with the Jensens or any other caps..? I noticed that PCX has a 15% of sale going on..might be tempted to get a couple more of a different variety..the Jupiter Beeswax one is one that is on my mind.

I'm very wary of PCX....bought a few 12AX7 (around 12) and as many as 20 caps (worth over 500USD)....all were faulty. Ofcourse, few things worked as well

oh wow..that's a real shame..never heard of faulty stuff coming out of PCX before.

I have bought a few caps for my DAC and some riken resistors..

Actually one of my other friends who uses the copper foil ampohm in his amp which is identical to mine said it was leaking a volt of DC and had to order a replacement..kinda makes me wonder where QA is heading in the audio world.

On that note, a relatively new planar headphone failed to work..for a 600$ headphone its apalling that the driver should conk out within a year.

On a similar note.... A Euro 55,000 speaker was shipped and installed here, with its LF out of phase.

I wonder why its keen eared local rep did not discover it, for several weeks....

But we are digressing from this thread

aaye..sad state of affairs..

Just heard back from audiocap..looks like my order is going to be delayed by a couple of weeks..but they offered to send me very closely matched caps to compensate for the delay.

WIsh i had some more extra cash lying around as i wanted to try the auricaps in the filter section of my DAC...Will have t o wait for another time i guess.

So, how did you find the Ampohm's as coupling caps, compared to the others?

Hi,

The Russian K42 PIO caps are good and not very expensive.

The Teflon FT3 caps are also very good.

For speaker crossover use the KBG PIO caps.

The Russian caps are very good value for money, and are available on Ebay from several sellers.

Regards
Rajiv

The amp ohms are amazing value for money. They are now my default go to choice for interstage coupling caps.
