Folks,

We all have gone thru the phase of convincing our missus for a complete new purchase of Hifi or an upgrade...Here's a chance to vote for what you had to go thru...

1>Maybe your wife shot your brains out when she discovered that half a lakh went down for a cdp..

2>Or your mother in law ganged up to chew your ears and asked for an expalination as to why do those gold plated interconnects cost more than gold..

3>Or maybe she boasts of your set-up with her friends and talks real Hifi..

4>Or just plainly ignore thinking you have lost your mind..

5>Or thinks you are safe at home fiddling your Hifi than flirting with girls out there..

6>Or you just lied that your ex room mate flew abroad and you picked it up for a sneeze not revealing the actual cost.

7> Smuggled stuff into your house when she is asleep.

8th option is given if you vote for that please put down your unique experince..
Please vote for the numbers above with ref to situations here and lets see who wins...it's HIFI VS WIFEY

No, we are three.......
My wife does know the prices (she would kill me if I dont tell her the prices) but she knows that its one of my biggest passion so I am excused forever...

BTW....after going around with me to so many auditions...she has started enjoying hifi...thats good news for me !!!

It's Ok! She knows I love HiFi! And she likes music too so it's fine. The problems start when I start tampering with the room... and puch a cushion here... another mattress there... you know...!!

I've been lucky enough to have a wifey who is as much into music as I do...maybe a little more (trained vocalist/musician, part of the office rock band)

So going for a HiFi setup did not face much resistance. In fact she was actively involved in the auditions and the final selection.

Just a little friction on the price tags but that was good for me as I tend to get carried away

Hi,
Fortunately for me, my wife likes all the strange stuff I listen to and appreciates that it takes a half decent music system to make it sound good.

What she is unable to reconcile with, is why Hifi gear has to be so expensive

Cheers

1st i told my wife the amp is gonna be as sleek as the dvdp and i got the marantz sr 5500
then i told her the speakers are gonna be as small as satellites(bose as she understands) and got 36" floorstanders
now she was waiting for the surrounds and i shifted to buying an ipod and told her i dont want to end the process; and that i shall get the surrounds anyday-

now i guess she is documenting all this against me as evidence .

My wife enjoys music as much as I do or may be a bit more, because she is saved the trouble of finding the right equipment . I am glad that my family likes to listen to well reporoduced music and dont mind spending reasonably for it. My wife helps me lot in auditioning new gear, totaly unaware of brands she tells you what she feels, usually it will be in line to view.

For me I had to really play it strategically.

Firstly, I set the expectation before hand (as least for one year) that I'll like to buy a little bit hi-end stuff.

Then I capitalized on the emotional state on an occation when I came back from abroad after a 2 months of staying single and saying how much suffering I was going through during that period(to put a case that now I need something really rewarding). Also I kept on telling her about many hi end stuffs I saw there and how much I liked their sound.

Then, I told her that at least I'll like to have audition of the high-end stuffs whatever abvailable in Bangalore. Also stressing on the fact that however I don't have much intention to buy them. as such.

Next step, spending 2 weeks or more in auditions almost 2 shops a day. Visiting the same shop for same combo for twice/thrice. Making her involved in the assessment process with CDs of her kind.

Finally, she gave up and wanted some decision to happen (enough of auditioning - I cannot do it any longer) and what I had to do is a little bit negotiation on the budget front.

Now, all said and done, I much acknowledge the overall support she typically gives about my passion for music and music system. She has also in this process developed a taste for good sound.

My next project is how to convince her for an upgrade to a better hi-fi in another 5 years time frame. I'm already thinking a blueprint for the same.

I think modern technology allows excellent sounding products to merge with fabulous designs and styling. The down side is the cost of some of this gear,e.g Sonus Faber,Primare,Dali,JM Labs,
Classe,Vivid and many others. Some time back I saw an entire B&O system, consisting of the Beolab1,Beolab6000 and the Beovision5
in the most amazing metallic sapphire blue. The fit finish and presence of the product took my breadth away, hell if I had the money I would plonk it just for the looks.BTW the HT was pretty neat on this system. Conclusion, manufacturers need to do more life(wife)style products.
Regards Deaf.
