What happened to the NAD silverline series ?
They were constructed solid and gave many high-end amps a run for their money. Why did they stop making them ? Perhaps the insiders would know…..any thoughts ?

Even I thought so. But I feel the master series is more into new-age multi-channel and dsp and stuff like that. They do not have much traditional stereo hifi stuff in that lineup except for one intergrated.

Dont think it did very well...NAD high end products I believe clashed with their Value for Money image

Me too thinks the same. Their silverline stuff was good but people spending so much money would rather see some other logo on the chassis……
I remember seeing lots of guys at AA using the Silverline stuff especially their S200 amp. I hope the master series do not meet with the same fate.

Upto some extent image does matter....but it cant be only the image that could decide the fate IMO.
Sonically, if it is just competitive(at that price point), its not enough IMO....it has to carry an edge to really affect the market in its favour I suppose.

Lacked publicity !!!
By publicity I mean, buying rave reviews from the major hifi media houses

Sonically, some of the successful big brands out there are not all that great. There are other factors like “ brand value” and marketing gimmicks like “ paid reviews in big audio-mags” which makes all the difference. If you are a big brand with lot of overheads, an edge in quality will not actually translate into business unless you know how to play the game. Or you need to stay as a very niche player who manufactures only on order.

The Silver Line did extremely well the world over.In fact the Korean NAD disti refused to do any Classic series, he only did $500000 FOB in silverline each year. The pre power are rocking in their performance, outdid many top end brands too.Infact IMAGE HIFI an extremely high end german mag still use the pre-power as one of their reference amps. The natural partner for this gear was the DYNAUDIO 1.3SE.Bloody rocking setup. The master series is nowhere as close.

Yes. I remember reading about this combination somewhere long back.
I remember people raving about the silverline series. I remember posts on AA about peoiple upgrading to the S200 from brystons and such stuff. That is whay I wondered why they were discontinued.
I wonder if there are any available in the used market.

Just got sold !
There was a pair of pre - power for sale.
Went really cheap @ 50 or 60 grand - I think.
Was a great combination.
I liked it.
Very good VFM product.

I have not 'seriously' auditioned the new series as yet.
When ever I do, I will comment on it.
However, it is expensive.
