For Mumbai Forum Members; I can play different CD Players & demonstrate the differance that 'source' makes to the final result; Any or all are welcome to listen ! I may have 3 players currently connected - people are welcome to get some more of their choice to hear the differance;; |

Having been fortunate to have heard 2 of these 3 CD players, I can vouch that there IS a difference... |

I disagree. It is as important as any other equipment in the chain. This is especially true, when you are building a system with a pre-determined notion of "what it should sound like"...specifically with reference to musical notes and associated harmonics (NOT in terms "mids", "bass", etc.,etc.,). In many budget systems that above may not be an objective...because the challenge would be to get the "basics" right. Once you reach a level where you can - take for granted that the "basics" are satisfied..and move towards higher goals (like mentioned in the second para)....this is when CD player becomes a very critical part. Regards Siva. |

A Very nice read, and very nicely and pragmatically written ..thanks for sharing ! my experience is also quite similiar ie the source does make a difference but in a very subtle way. But again it may not be apparent but it is quite perceivable ... eg One source can sound good but give you a headache while another may not sound as great as the earlier but you can live with for a very long time !! but of course the rest of the chain must be "clear" enough to reveal these differences. have got a chance to A/B a couple of other CDPs/Dac with my Reimyo and I must say the difference are pretty apparent to all who were listening although i would not even want to venture over which is "better" as the differences are in the presentation and there is no way of finding out which is " more right " ! (also they all sound very good to me ) [Beitrag von Arj am 12. Apr 2008, 19:21 bearbeitet] |

I have converted that article to text form for greater convenience/handier reference and have uploaded it below: http://rapidshare.com/files/106982964/tlcdp.zip.html (only 6kb) It was too big to paste here (2,678 words). [Beitrag von particleman am 12. Apr 2008, 22:16 bearbeitet] |

No Sir ! That was sold by me for a 'song' 2 years back. It was a wonderful 4 box CD Playback system with cables included. Pre Amplifier too. A close friend now has it in is rack. I changed 4 CD Players there after. |

I think CDP makes a difference but with modern players the difference is not very much noticable. |

A CD Player consists of the following logical parts -> Transport : Itself consisting of multiple components and several parts of mechanial importance -> Mode of transmission from transport to DAC circuitry : There are so many complications here....isolation transformers, Receivers, reclocking, ....blah blah -> the filter before it goes to DAC .. reduce jitter, oversampling/upsampling, blah blah -> DAC -> I/V Conversion (depending on the DAC)..not required DAC with voltage o/p -> Amplification/Buffer stage All the above mentioned are logical parts. The physical implementation involves many more complexities of its own ... each and every soldering point has an implication. More u dig, the deeper u are in trouble There is nothing called "modern" cd player. Bloody PCM is about quarter century old !!! |

The very reason why a well implemented old cd player can sound so much better than some in the new series. |
