Hi,
I am new into the component based systems and am currently trying to come up with a suitable mix. Needed some help from the audiophiles on this thing.
Can you tell me if PM7200 is better for hard rock kind of music than NAD 320BEE? Assume I am talking about Diamond 9.5s here as the speaker set.
Reason for this question is that I read somewhere that NAD320 diluted the guitar parts and is better for pop/bon jovi kind of rock where the guitar pieces are not very harsh. I am into AC/DC kind of stuff so need to make sure I get this one right.
Any help would be great.

Hey there,
i listen to all kinds of music and need to let myself go some times and then the heavy meatl and hard rock stuff comes out.
i play ac/dc, rammstein, megadeath, judas priest, sepultura,Whitesnake, pantera, and all that stuff.
the Nad performs well in the mids and the highs but the bass is a bit less for that kind of music. it is more to do with the room acoustics i think. the room just opens up to into many rooms and a staricase, all without any walls or doors and the fact the room itself is very large 14X22X11(wXlXh).
have'nt heard the marantz so no comments there.
i heard the diamond9.5 better bass and much better imaging than the diamond8.4 that i have.
they are more or less equal on the mids and the highs with the 9.5 just scarping ahead over the 8.4
the bass is tighter and deeper. the imaging is what caught my attention. it was very good.
Cheers,
Ben

u have to listen to the guitars of Pink Floyd in the album Division Bell. it just pierces ur body , amazing. the highs and midrange of the Nad are way way above that of the yamaha receiver that i have. its simply no competition.
The vocals are so warm and soulful.
u really feel Neil Diamond's presence in the room and Don willliams country crooning voice .
Cheers,
Ben

yeah...pink floyd would need a different set of ears than AC/DC but am a big of fan of both. I heard NAD is a bit loose when it comes to lows but does fine with mids and highs.and with if i listen to Led Zepplin, it comes out a bit muffled. I auditioned the 9.5s with MArantz (dont remember the number) and even that setup was found kinda wanting when I played "Moby Dick". Not sure if that is because of the recording itself or is the setup at fault. The bass was really muffled. No doubt NAD is gr8, but I guess, it ultimately depends on the music too, eh?

i heard the cambridge at my dad's colleague place.
no way man. the Nad just beats it fair and square. especially with the kind of music i have mentioned. the bass is all plummy in the cambridge.
the highs are smoother but i found the Nad to outperform the cambridge in all other areas.

hmm..were the CDPs and the room the same ?

the room has perhaps the greatest of impact on the bass hence unless you do a side by side comparison, appearances are deceptive

if you are talking Wharfedale diamonds ,
-what is the size of the room ?
- what is the sensitivity & nominal impdance of the Speakers ?

In a decently large room (say 15 x 14 or more) the nad might just lack theat power to drive a 87db spaker loud..i think Benks has that problem with his Wharfies.

the PM7200 has a much heftier power output and hence might be a better choice.

but if you get the new NAD352 into the pictures things might get a little bit more interesting !
