Ok, here's the deal...

my current set up is a Technics SU A909 Amp and some TDL RTL3SE speakers, I've had this kit now for a good 6 years i must imagine, both have served me well.. But it's time for an upgrade, and first of all i'm thinking of new speakers. My speaker budget is going to be a max £1000, with a refence to upgrading to a new amp that goes well with the new speakers a few months later down the line... And again the budget for the amp will be no more than £1000.

I want out of this a hifi that doesn't feel cold.... I have heard friend's hifi set ups, and while they may have alot more presence in terms of picking out notes and voice and not over doing things in the high end, it does give a cold feeling when I listen to it for too long, I feel no bass presence there, and once turned up loud the music on their hifi's just lose its sound.

What would your suggestion be? I've been told BW 604 S3's

what amp for £1000 or less would make them sing? or would mine do the job ok? or would someone recommend a totally different suggestion of equipment altogether? I'm all ears for help on this one

Bearing in my i like to have the music loud, warm sounding, yet detailed and emotional, but also something that sounds good too, late at night for lower volumes

thanks for any suggestions anyone feeds back

Evidently.... I'm selling my TDL's because I will have no need for these when I get the new speakers...

The link for the sale is here :
http://av.freeads.co.uk/2_x_TDL_RTL3-70717.htm

as it includes a photo, the sale price might seem high, but at the moment i'm just considering any semi-decent offer

They've been incredibly looked after as you can see from the photo's and are in new condition with original boxes and everything

Cheers

Hi.

I have a pair of 603 S3 and I listened to 604 too. The sound is practically the same, but with a more powerful bass. You´ll thank that extra bass specially when you´re listening music at low volumes. The mids and highs are basically the same. Some people says the high frequencies are so... hmmm a little... loud but I like them very much, and the mids too, they´re not bad at all. And if you change my bass for a more powerful one... I´ll love it!

Just listen to them if you can and take your own conclusions, but I think those are a very recommendable ones.

Cheers i'm going to try do that, unfortunately our hi fi shop doesn't have a set in their shop so im going to have to travel to hear them, i think they only range upto £400 speakers, which in hifi terms is nothing really,

Are your speakers magnetically shelded?

Hi HaVoK.

very popular choices to accompany a 6XX series are Arcam and Rotel (maybe NAD).
As all B&W's like power I suggest you first identify the amplifier brand which sounds best to you and go then along their lines up to your budget.
I went with a 604 all the way through the Arcam line (A65 to A90) and my sweet spot was the A85.
I ended up with something completely different, but that's another story ...

Enjoy

Any B&W speakers would sound fabulous with a nnad amp. NAD 370 will be apt for you. Look no further...:-)

i'm going this saturday upto london to check them out, ill ask them to partner them up with the nad 370 amp like you suggested.

While I was talking to them on the phone to book the demo room they were saying about trying out some Ruark Prologue II's which they could do a deal for me at 1k if i buy an amp too, so we shall see, i have never heard that model before though, and from what I remember of a previous Ruark speaker, they didn't have the bass extension I was looking for

Do you know Atoll amps? I have the IN 80 and i guess it suits your taste.

Have a look on the Atoll page:

try the ruark but B&W would be a better bet. if you are going all the way to london then do try out the monitor audio bronze and silver series floorstanders also. very nice they are and a bit cheaper than the B&W's but you might just like them from what I read in your last posting.
