So,what happened to the all analogue amplifier theory( no chips in the circuit)?
This has all digital controls.
Thx.

Very true. digital is not bad if implemented properly. Here are two digital amps from ps audio which are being praised by die hard analogue purists lke positive feedback online

The problem with class D is that they tend to have a higher THD , while this may be immaterial for sub-woofer application(hence they are popular for driving subwoofers)it is becomes very much so when you start to use them for full arnge duties. Only of late have we seen such amps with low THD ofv\er the entire freq range. The other thing is that they run very efficiently.
And hence the size of the heatsink needed is much less when compared to other classes of amps.
One company that is pioneering research in Class D is hypex.nl

p.s: of course, a lot of class D material cn be found on diyaudio.com.
If you can design a class D amp then it is understood that you have a very sound(no pun intended) knowledge of Mosfets.

Typical class D subwoofer amps are high in distortion…….we are talking about high-end/highly regarded and ultra low distortion power amps using Pulse Width Modulation-digital switching technology at the output stage.

channel islands is a small company in the US...www.ciaudio.com, they have been using the hypex UCD class-D modules for their monoblocks, but are tweaked for to meet their specs. They also have a nice dac and a very nice passive preamp and heaphone amp...its a company which has one of those no frills products...more money spent on performance and parts rather than looks...

Yes i know and i was referring to Hypex fopr this reason..
their Class D modules based on UcD is state of the art..
in fact Bruno Putzeys is a member of dyaudio.com and has helped the DIY community immensly and continues to do so.
If i buy a class D, its going to be a UcD module from Hypex.

Hey! how about the tonal accuracy of these digital switching amps, when compared to our regular analogue ones?
