Hi Guys,

This is my stereo setup

Pioneer Universal Player Rs.7000/-
NAD C320BEE (New Rs.11000 (Singapore)
Klipsch RF 25.(Audio People CHennai)Rs.48000/- net

I am using it in a relative small room (12'*8'). But seems OK. Would I be able to use this setup in a smaller room than this (say 8'by8').

Also is the price I paid for Klipsch RF 25 correct or is it much cheaper ?

Udayds,
How would you describe your set up, in terms of audio quality?
It is intesting to know, since the you are not using a dedicated CD Player. Is it the weakest link in the system or not?
Thanks.

Hi,

Thhe Universal Player is DV667A, seems to be a decent performer. In terms of SOund Quality from SACD's and CD's I am pretty satisfied, . The difficulty I am having is due to the need for a TV (which I used only for initial setup) for proper operation, and the incredibly slow CD load time. Probably if the powers that be release a dedicated universal player for Audio alone it would be a much better experience. I am only using stereo

The entire audio experience is good at reasonable volume levels, the sound is clean. However the right placement of speakers is important.

8x8 feet would be incredibly small for a floor-stander. The boom and muddy bass will kill the music. Even 12x8 is too small. Speakers need to be at least 2.5 ft into the room from side and rear walls not to sound boomy. I would suggest bookshelf speakers for a room this small.

Japonica International, Kolkata sells RF25 for Rs.37,000/- and RF35 for Rs.48,000/-

Hi Udayds,
do not worry about what you have purchased it is not going to help you in any way !.
What you need to worry about is how to optimise it. Any system can be made to sound good with proper !

It is better to use this in the 12 x 8 room. place the speakers at least 2 feet away from the back along the long wall. toe them in by around 30 deg for a beginning Sit along the opposite long wall.
you may have a bass Boom for which the following can be done
1. Wall Carpet on the middle of the xall behind the speakers
2. Foam on the ports of the speakers
3. All corners of trhe room to have Wooden furniture or any damping device
4. Carpet along the floor in front (OR else raise the front of the speakers slightly via a coins or brass discs)

generally have lots of furniture in the room

And do lots of reading on room treatments
8X8 is actually very small as an audio room and since it is square the acousitcs would be horrible. Only way to remedy that would be Wood panelling/Wall carpets etc which might work out more expensive than your setup

Then that means The Audio People in Chennai has taken me for a ride. But how could they over charge like that considering that they are authorized dealer of Klipch.

As of now, I have kept the speakers on each on a Mini carpet with spikes, and the room has wooden shelves , and softcushion relaxing chair and a wooden bed.
Also the speakers are aligned around 20 degrees.

The sound is good at the sweet spot, which is very good if I am relaxing in a Chair. But sound muddled if I move to any other point.

I think I will checkout suggestions you have given to try and work out some thing nice.

Well it is the responsibility of the buyer to ensure he gets the best value in the deal The seller will only try to make more money....

Since the deed is done and at that point you thought you were getting the right value for money, For now it makes sense to enjoy what you have than worry if you have been taken for a ride !

PLay around with the toe in once you have oits positioning from the back wall right.. 30 deg I mentioned is only a starting point..for all you know 20 migt be Ideal.
When I had a RF3, around 15 degree toe in with a small 3 deg tilt upwards got me very good sound.

Hi Udayds,

I was also considering an affordable Pioneer DVD player. Tell me why does it need a TV for audio? Does it come without a built in LCD display

If you play only CD's then you dont require the TV. But if you have some SACD's which you want to change between CD Layer, SACD Stereo Layer, SACD Multi Ch Layer, then you will require TV atleast initally to set the defaults up as the GUI is the TV screen and the On Screen Display doesnt help much.

Hi udayds,

I bought my Klipsch RF10 for 32k from Audio People and also the RC25 for Rs.10,500. I was told by some vendors at Richie Street that these guys sell their products thrice the actual market price. I dint realise then though. Anyways there is no point cribbing over it though.

Hi Arj,

How did you do the upward tilt of 3 degrees ?

Also there was this other question I had regarding Imaging. As of now the 20 degree alignment on each speakers is good for getting nice imaging (if my usage of the word is correct) in Cliff Richard, Beatles, Pink Floyd Cd's. If I sit in the centre and close my eyes, I can feel the voice coming just above my head, and the guitar pick just below my head where the performers hand is working on. But in some other CD's (for ex Rolling stones SACD, some Rock Compilations) I find myself experimenting with different position to get the right "feel" you know what I am saying.

Is there a standard holy grail in stereo speaker positioning which is like one size fits all placement strategy for all kind of music.

Dear Udayds,

You may want to check out " A visit to Junia's place" thread.

I had shared some aspects on speaker positioning it might be of some help to you.

Regards,

Junia.
