Hi all,

I am new to this forum and I have started off this looong journey of finding a home theater for myself!.

I had a chance to audition the genie speaker package with the sonodyne AVR at forum mall. It was very good indeed. I have also heard telome speakers at a couple of places and I am impressed by those too.
Questions:
1. Has anyone had a chance to do a comparison between the genie and the telome speakers?
2. I am still unable to find a dealer for telome in Bangalore..(which is pretty bad)

Also, the Sonodyne AVR impressed me in the demo. But I felt it is expensive. I am still unable to figure out why it prices itself equal to Yamaha or other basic AVRs. Being a locally manufactured one, I believe it should have been a more reasonable. (Infact for $350 you get really good rxrs in US). Never the less, it is indeed a good product.
Questions:
1. I am planning to start off with a rxr and 2 speakers...and later extend it to a home theater...with dvd/TV etc... could someone please comment on the stereo performance of sonodyne AVR?
2. Is it worth buying a sonodyne AVR, or wait for someone to come from US and get a receiver for $250...like the onkyo TX SR502.?

Thanks!

Telome finally seems to be having a website at www.telomeaudio.com. But for the photographs, the website does not provide much information though! May be it is still under construction. The website lists the existing dealers for Telome as:

Mumbai
26450945 / 26511827 / 9820064509

Goa (Just Audio)
9823176928

Delhi (Group ADR)
26229701 / 9810072921

Chennai (ProMusic)
28193607

Hyderbad (Sound & Vision)
9849019080

That means there is no dealer in Bangalore. I had an opportunity to hear Telome's jewel cubes + sub at Fusion Pub/Cinnabar Red in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad. Can't say I am very impressed. But then, please continue to explore and audition. If you are interested in jewelcubes (a.k.a Bose) and not finding an Indian version in Bangalore, Space Audio has the same being offerred at Music Ranch, Opposite Calypso, 3rd Block, Jayanagar. Personally I am not (yet) into home-theatre, and if I have to, I will choose Lithos Noa among the Indian brands.

Yamaha enjoys something called economy of scale. Having been into music since last 100 years, they know their stuff well. Sometimes there are spill-over benefits from the R&D of other fields Yamaha is into. For example, in one of their amplifiers (don't recall the model) they have used a low noise fan that was originally meant for their racing bikes. Sonodyne obviously does not have this advantage. But then, one can not put down Sonodyne, and so you choose as per your liking.

I have not heard Sonodyne AVR. But when Sound Options was in existence in Koramangala, I once had a demo of their stereo amplifier (SR-4000/8000). It was quite good.

Thanks!.

One of the reasons I am inclined towards sonodyne is the support...since they have a good presence in Bangalore (where I am from), I feel it is a safer bet rather than going in for products like Yamaha. Onkyo is of course my second choice. (Telome is ruled out because there arent any dealers in Bangalore)

I have been a sonodyne fan right from the Uranus days.! (I still cant find a hi fi system to beat it!). But I believe they have started charging too much premium for their products.

I checked out the space system, I wasnt very impressed. The sound seemed a bit sharper than others. (may be it was the music that was on the demo) which i.m.o is the first cause for listener fatigue.

Lithos is in the wishlist (in fact at the top!) and will probably remain there...since it is expensive and will shoot up my budget!
Does anyone know what is the current price for the Noa 1 and the Pro 10?

Hi KVish,
Even I have checked out the Sonodyne HT packages. The genie are real good sattelite speakers, yet hear something better in that price range but I somehow liked the genie2 more than genie1. Genie2 had better mids IMO.
As far as the AVR goes, you can check out few of my previous postings about this AVR. First of all its not expensive looking at the performance. It has a terrific HT performance better than any other AVR within three times the price, please understand that I am comparing AVRs which are popularly available here in the country. One of the best surround processing I have ever heard from a budget reciever is Sonodyne. They have done a great job IMO. As far as Stereo is concerned, they do well only with a Sub. Without the Sub they dont have enough low end grunt to make your two front speakers swing well. Thats my personal view. For Stereo Marantz and HK are better than Sonodyne at entry level. HK is a high current reciever so it drives the fronts very well without any dearth of power, where as Marantz being on the top of the list does almost everything amazing, a very musical reciever to say the least.
But HK and Marantz start at 25K, nothing below that.

You'll get earlier models of Marantz (SR 4200, 4300...) for within 20K. As abhi said, they're great AVRs to start with and yes, they're quite musical. Will beat the pants off a Yam RXV 350, 450 and the like anyday!

Does anyone know what is the current price for the Noa 1 and the Pro 10?

The latest numbers that I have are:
1) Noa 1 sub/sat combo (1 passive sub, 2 sats): 15k + Tax
2) Noa 1 sat pair: 9k + Tax
3) Pro 10 pair: 20k + Tax

Pro 10 need reasonable amount of power to drive, so I am not sure about their performance with entry level avrs.

Does anyone have any feedback on Noa 1? Its in my wishlist also, though I have never heard them. I have heard Studio 1, and they sound really good. I would have gone for Studio 1 but Lithos has discontinued Studio 1 and is coming up with a sub/sat combo like to Noa 1 instead. Not sure when that will be out.

Thanks Abhi for your comments.
Infact I am planning to buy a receiver and 2 speakers ....just to start off.... no point in having 5 speakers when I cannot afford a good quality TV and DVD player
So, if at all I go in for the Genie's it will be with the sub.
Do you think the genie2 is worth the price..considering it is almost twice the price and my room size is around 220sqft
Honestly, the room size in Forum (where it I checked the sonodyne system) is pretty small.. so its difficult to spot the differences between the two.

You can know the difference if you listen to it in Stereo mode using just two sats and a sub. Dont listen to it with all 5 sats on. There is a distinct difference.
But then with the price of two genie2 sats you can have a pair of decent bookshelves as well....so you got to eveluate.
